"XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX SUN MAY 21, 2006 20:00:02 ET XXXXX

DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL COMMITTEE WORKED TO DEFEAT NAGIN

**Exclusive**

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) secretly placed political operatives in the city of New Orleans to work against the reelection efforts of incumbent Democrat Mayor Ray Nagin, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

DNC Chairman Howard Dean made the decision himself to back mayoral candidate and sitting Lieutenant Governor Mitch Landrieu (D-LA), sources reveal.

Dean came to the decision to back the white challenger, over the African-American incumbent Nagin, despite concerns amongst senior black officials in the Party that the DNC should stay neutral.

The DNC teams actively worked to defeat Nagin under the auspice of the committee's voting rights program.

The party's field efforts also coincided with a national effort by Democrat contributors to support Landrieu.

Landrieu had outraised Nagin by a wide margin - $3.3 million to $541,980.

Preliminary campaign finance reports indicate many of Landrieu’s contributions came from out of state white Democrat leaders and financiers, including a $1,000 contribution from Sen. Ben Nelson's (D-NE) PAC.

The defeat of Mitch Landrieu is the latest setback for Dean's often criticized field operation.

In his victory speech late Saturday night, Nagin praised President Bush.

"You and I have probably been the most vilified politicians in the country. But I want to thank you for moving that promise that you made in Jackson Square forward," Nagin said.

I lost all confidence in the voting mob in 2004, so the re-election of Nagin in NO and Nifong in Durham comes of no surprise. It's not a matter of voting Democrat or Republican but a vote for sanity that has been lost.

The NO election tells me three things:
1) The media grossly underestimated how many displaced residents would cast ballots

2) The complete reversal of support of Nagin. in '02, Nagin won with mostly white votes and most blacks didn't care for him. After his "chocolate city" speech, blacks rallied behind him and whites went ABN in the election

3) Nagin's day of glory may be short-lived. People want the city to be rebuilt a certain way and if it isn't, he's gone in '10. It may have been a blessing for Landrieu or the guy who finished third in Round 1 that he didn't win b/c the pressure is really going to be on Nagin. The alternative is that I could be wrong and the end result being that NO's citizens may have shown their incompentence just like Washingtonians did when they reelected Marion Barry as mayor in 1995 and watched idly by as the nation's capital was run well into the ground.

It's Louisiana politics...about as relevant to the national political scene as who wins a DC primary.

This is also true.

Louisiana, the state the Nation can laugh at...and cry for. If they elected good political leadership, what would become of the blues?

I never understood why this was national news anyway. Who the hell cares who wins the NO election? I think the media should continue concentrating on this NSA spying deal and all the other corrupt scandals in Washington. But thats not going to happen, so w/e.

Not that it matters to TGD and the other eight members of
the Bush fan club, but Drudge seems to have made this up, along with his
story about Al Gore's entourage in Cannes.

Quote :
"Matt Drudge reported earlier today that Al Gore and his "entourage" took five cars to travel the 500 yards from their hotel in Cannes, France, to the theater where "An Inconvenient Truth" was being screened. As Think Progress reports this afternoon, a Gore spokesman says the former vice president and his associates walked to the screening.

Drudge also reported this morning that the Democratic National Committee "secretly placed political operatives in the city of New Orleans to work against the reelection efforts of incumbent Democrat Mayor Ray Nagin." The DNC says the report is "unequivocally and absolutely false," and Drudge now says that he takes DNC chairman Howard Dean and his spokesman "at their word.""
