like, here's my list of songs that i can't hear again w/o thinking of the scene from a movie...
Examples that sort of ruined the song for me now
-Silence of the Lambs - "Goodbye Horses" by Q Lazzarus: I mean, i have to thank the movie b/c i'd probably have never heard this song ever, but god damn, i can't listen to it w/o thinking of that one scene where you see why Buffalo Bill has been killing women for their skin . (still, this song freaking rocks)
-Rules of Attraction - "Afternoon Delight" by Starland Vocal Band: Sure, this song was already about masturbation but everytime i hear it now i recall the dawson's creek fag jerking off .
-Rules of Attraction - "Without You" by Harry Nilsson: Reminds me of that poor girl that killed herself in her bathtub.
-American Psycho - "Sussudio" by Phil Collins: Christian Bale staring at himself in the mirror & flexing while doing that chick.
-Platoon - "Adaggio by Strings" by Barber: This will forever remind me of poor Willen Dafoe .
-A Clockwork Orange - "William Tell Ouverture" by Rossini: This used to only remind me of a few looney tunes but now I just remember the sped up scene where Alex is having sex in multple positions.
-A Clockwork Orange - "Singing in the Rain" by Gene Kelly: Alex actually sings the song in the movie but it will forever remind me of how evil they were singing this along to raping that woman.
-Goodfellas - "Layla" by Derek & The Dominos: Will forever make me remember lots of people getting dealt with by the mafia.
-Casino - "House Of The Rising Sun" by The Animals / Eric Burdon: Same exact reasons I gave for Goodfellas.
Examples where the song wasn't "ruined" but forever reminds me of a funny scene from movie.
-Boogie Nights - "Sister Christian" by Night Ranger: Makes me remember Dirk & Brock all coked up trying to rob that crazy dude who sings this song.
-Magnolia - "Goodbye Stranger" by Supertramp: Will forever make me laugh when I hear it, thinking about William H. Macey's scene in the bar, obsessing over hot Brad, the bartender w/ the braces.
-Blue Velvet - "In Dreams" by Roy Orbison: Haha, this will make me remember that old dude from Quantum Leap, lip-singing this song all gussyed up in make-up...
-Heathers - "Que, sera, sera" by Doris Day: Will always make me think of the Heathers + Winona Ryder's character playing croquet...
-House of 1,000 Corpses - "Brick House" by The Commodores: Makes me laugh when I hear it b/c I think about that one scene where they are cutting up that dude's face, while Baby dances to this song without a care in the world.
-The Devil's Rejects - "Free Bird" by Lynyrd Skynyrd: Fuck Forrest Gump soundtrack, this song will forever make me think of the ending to this movie, it was kick ass.
*** This shit's probably obvious &/or uninteresting to others but I'm sure other people have examples they can add where such a song used in a movie is so powerful that you can't help but now associate the 2 together.....

any song from rushmore or royal tenenbaums
i've seen them SO many times. it's hard not to.
most memorable i guess would have to be:
"a quick one while he's away" ~ the who from rushmore when max and blume are getting back at each other
"she smiled sweetly" ~ rolling stones and "me and julio down by the schoolyard" ~ paul simon from tenenbaums
and of course "ooh la la" ~ the faces comes in as one of my favorite soundtrack choices of all time. it MADE the ending of that movie. so great. 5/22/2006 2:25:00 AM |

^ Basically what I'd say as well, though "Needle in the Hay" and "Ruby Tuesday" end up sticking out as much as "Ooh La La". 5/22/2006 2:32:55 AM |

definitely needle in the hay. one of the most memorable scenes i can think of.
but i've listened to that song so much without the movie. i dunno. i don't always think of the movie when i listen to it. "ooh la la" i always think of slow-mo dancing. 5/22/2006 2:34:08 AM |

^^^the movie Tadpole uses "only living boy in new york" better, just in case you were wondering...
i would say for garden state it would have to be the shins song that starts as he's pulling the tarp off the motorcycle

Bob Dylan - Man in Me Heck, most everything from the Big Lebowski's soundtrack
Also, there's this instrumental that always seems to be playing when I go to Greek Fiesta. It's from the scene in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels where Rory Braker (or however you spell it) and his men are about to bust into the apartment and go postal. 5/22/2006 5:55:55 PM |
