on the drivers side the rotor is seized to the hub and i cant knock it loose. the retainer screw was missing but i cant pull the thing off. anyone know what i should do?
ive already got everything changed on the passenger side so i am hesitant to put the old pads back on and take it to someone. 5/24/2006 8:58:00 PM |

im assuming non-four wheel drive, take a BFH hit on the rotors right on top of where they are seized to the hub 5/24/2006 9:00:48 PM |

I mean i dont know where they are seized, them shits just dont move
im assuming driving without a retainer screw was a bad thing (im not the one that left it off)
i tried banging it from behind but it wouldnt budge 5/24/2006 9:03:27 PM |

try hitting it harder. if you are putting brand new rotors on, try hitting it on the part where pads usually rub against it to get a lil more leverage. you will need a big hammer though, 4 pound at least

Shit...take a 24 to 32 oz hammer and hit it good and hard on the edge. As in down on the edge, toward the centerline. Don't puss out; wail on that bitch.
Is this a Jap car? Does it have two holes for M8x1.25 bolts to press the rotor off? 5/24/2006 9:16:51 PM |

german car
do i need to find a replacement for the retainer screw, or is this unrelated? 5/24/2006 9:18:24 PM |

retainer screw generally just supports the weight of the rotor while the lug bolts aren't in. Not a big deal, and it being missing certainly didn't cause the seizure. More than likely, when the rotor was last put on, the hub and rotor surfaces weren't cleaned or hit w/ brake cleaner before installed. That or rust caused it. Like Dan said, give it a good couple of tags w/ a bfh. 5/24/2006 9:41:31 PM |

either the BFH or jack the car up, slide a jackstand under the rotor and start releasing the jack, let the weight of the car take the rotor off for ya... 5/24/2006 10:31:26 PM |

spray some pb around the studs and hub, strike it hard all the way around the hub towards the center, wait about 30 min and repeat for a few hours. if a single good blow from a 4lb hammer or bigger on the back of the rotor won't pop it off, keep soaking it, a lot of force on one side perpendicular to the bearing isn't good for it. i have had some that i had to heat up and just bust off in pieces with an air chisel they were rusted on so bad. 5/24/2006 11:51:06 PM |

my brother had a rotor seized on his jeep so bad it took hours of soaking in WD40 and repeated 25lb dumb bell hits to break it loose 5/25/2006 2:18:54 PM |

can we play a game of semantics?
I feel like seized isn't the right word in this case. from here on, let's go with 'stuck'. 5/25/2006 4:45:44 PM |
