I have some remote users and I need to train them how use our (web-based) system.

I think it would be best if I could take control of their computer, point some things out, and then let them take control and try to run through some steps.

I was thinking a simple VNC setup would work but there isn't anyone at that office with the experience needed to set it up (there is a Linksys router in use). Sure I could spend a couple hours over the phone to get it up and running, but that's just not very efficient. I need something that's effortless for the remote user to setup.

Whats a good system to use for this purpose?

Cisco Meetingplace is pretty much perfect for this....

but likely way out of budget.

i suspect you won't find both

real vnc wouldn't be hard
how hard is it to walk someone through putting a computer in the DMZ of the router?

or, you could set up realvnc server on your machine, have them run the client (no install) to connect to you and then you control your computer while they watch.

webex meetings. Webex is fucking amazing I swear.

No router configs, no worrying about firewalls, shit just works, its simple and beautiful.

i hadn't thought of webex, but i would recommend that too. we use it here at work.
i dont' know if it is free though.

they have a free unlimited trial, and after using that, you'll drop the change for the service without hesitation.
