Just noticed this while persuing IMDB this morning.

Spike Jonze will be directing an animated feature film adaptation of Maurice Sendak's badass Where the Wild Things Are. Dave Eggers is doing the script, which is interesting, and it will be his first screenwriting credit (as far as I know). The cast includes Benicio Del Toro, Catherine O'Hara, Paul Dano, Forest Whitaker, and Michelle Williams.

How is this even possible? I saw the story animated on something like Reading Rainbow once. I guess Spike Jonze has nothing better to do?

Eh, you get dumped by Sofia Coppola, crazy shit is bound to happen.

Produced by Tom Hanks, btw.

He does have another Charlie Kaufman collaboration in the works for 2007-ish.

He's not working with Kaufman on his new movie. Kaufman is directing it himself. Also, it sounds awesome.

Anyway, Where the Wild Things Are was one of my favorite books when I was kid. Drunk, sober, whatever; I'll see it.

EDIT: Wow I just noticed how old this thread is. So ignore my first comment

or as my gf says:

because a quickie, cgi-loaded disney adaptation by a bunch of no-names is the same as spike jonze and dave eggers working on something for years

remains to be seen, but this is my prediction, yes

hay guise, lets go and make a movie based on a popular children's book but keep it semi-edgy enough to attract young adults that think they are being cool while still making a killing on the kids and their parents, and instead of being different from all the 5810376109837519874 other fantasy movies we'll stick to CGI and green screens so it can be shot in the back of a studio warehouse for cheap. also let's never stop talking about how long we've been sitting working on this and get a bunch of big name actors to phone in the voices.

fwiw, the word is that most of this other than the facial expressions is done with muppets, not cgi, and they ended up firing a couple of the big-name actors they got and replacing them with jonze's people because the original actors weren't cutting it

it seemed to me like the chronicles of narnia movies were trying to cash in on the success of lord of the rings. i don't see any relation here. also, anyone know where the acoustic arcade fire song is from?

The trailer for this is kinda awesome especially bc of Arcade Fire.

Is that version of Wake Up available anywhere else? Might have to wait for the OST.

i watched the trailer, it looked like the characters from Chuck E Cheese's mechanical band escaped and their faces were replaced with overexpressive CGI. and the soundtrack was some emo shit
