Future expansion of the stadium includes: enclosing the east endzone, the addition of a new press box and suites, the addition of a six story building for office space, player’s lounge, lockerooms, classrooms, and meeting rooms, and the addition of an upper deck on the stadium‘s south side. Upon completion, the stadium’s capacity will increase to over 60,000.

They can guesstimate that they can though

I can see ECU filling up their stadium at that size but no way in haiti that unc would ever be consistent.

laughable. That'll drain any atmosphere they did have. When there's spots of empty seats... it does horrible things to the atmosphere.

I feel like we're dumb for expanding over 60 after the last two seasons, but at least we had 5 years of sellouts with a long waiting list for tickets when the expansion was planned. This is just stupid.

it's like the new baseball stadium they just built...a waste of our money. Football season is major here, a lot of alumni come back, but the majority of people i know just tailgate and don't waste their time going in the stadium. I don't see how 60000 more seats will help. Then again, if you've seen the whole athletic complex on Ficklen Drive, I hope at least ONE of the athletic teams is making good use of it.

Here is the deal.... they have people willing to give them the money that want to see them get the bigger stadium..... so if the money is there now then why not go ahead and build one for the future. If someone said.... hey would you like a 10,000 square foot house basically for free would you be saying... you know I really dont need that much space... there wont be people close around to me so I will be missing the atmosphere...... no you wouldnt. Bottom line is... if the boosters want it now and are willing to pay for it I say you go for it. I mean in 10 years when it would be nice to have it they may be dead and the people that inherited the money may not care about football. Also, in greenville football is life.... much more impressed with there tailgating than what ours is now or even what it was before the tailgate shootings. Can you immagine how bad it would be here if we had a record like them? I personally think that if they can turn there team around and greenville keeps growing like it is then in 10 years ( prolly 5 before they even finish) they will be able to sell out some of there key games.

Also, they have a nice new strength and condition center very similar to ours donated by our Wendall Murphy and now they are going to put in more seats and make the stadium even nicer. If I was a recruit I would be impressed. ( well aside from there horrible record)

I am sure I made some mistakes in here gramatically and this is just my opinion..... have at it

most of those mile high seats they built in the mid 90s sit empty a lot of the time, why build new ones?

My girlfriend goes to ECU and I've gone to a few of their games. I would say half of the stands where empty, and one of the games I was at was their homecoming. I don't see the point of them adding new seats yet.

Well this may be an explanation for ECU adding seats. Ive heard this from two different people, but Im not going to say there is any truth to it, but it makes sense. Basically, ECU is losing a lot of money having to fly their womens basketball and other non-revenue sports to El Paso and Tulsa and whatnot, so they are looking at moving all of their teams minus football back to the CAA. This would me less travel expenses, plus more interesting opponents (I know Id much rather play a season against UNCW, Old Dominion, George Mason, etc, than crappy CUSA teams like Central Florida and SMU).

Supposedly when this happens, ECU football will join the Big East. Now I know everyone wants to snicker and laugh because we all hate ECU and think they suck, but this makes sense. The Big East only has 8 teams, which means only 7 conference games, therefore an uneven home vs away. So adding ECU would eliminate that problem, plus there is already a built in history since ECU has played West Virginia on a semi-regular basis for years as well as with Louisville and Cincinati from their CUSA days. Personally, I hope this is more than a rumor and happens...it sure would make all of those games we have scheduled against them look a little better. Like I said though, there may be no truth to this at all, but it does make sense.

i was talking with John Brooks (used to be Commisioner of Labor) at work and he mentioned something about it. Its a bill in the General Assembly so it doesn't mean anything. Bills are sponsored and put in all the time to make lobbyists/voters happy but most of the time they don't go anywhere.

I remember seeing a bill two years ago when i worked for the GA. It was a proposal to spend $4 million in transplanting full-grown Magnolia trees from out of state to Chapel Hill campus.

Hmm, didn't know the meaning of the word "future" got changed to "immediately". The paragraph says nothing about a timeframe for this. This season temporary bleachers are going to be added to the east endzone to make the capacity roughly 46,500. Sometime in the near future, plans are to build a new pressbox (I believe this is the first priority), and build permanent seats in the east endzone. With the improved OOC schedule, there will be plenty of opportunities in which the stadium will be full. If ECU does get invited to the Big East, there will be even more sellout games.
And to whoever said something about the baseball stadium (duck I believe), do you have any clue as to what you're talking about? Each of the last two years, ECU has been in the top 20 in the nation in terms of baseball attendance. This year ECU's streak of 7 straight NCAA tournament appearances (1 of 12 teams with a streak this long) finally came to a close. This year ECU averaged around 2,700 (which is down from last year's attendance of over 3,000), the old stadium only held 1,750. I don't really know what you were trying to get at with your post, but the construction of Clark-Leclair Stadium was a necessary move.

Terry Holland is their AD. He is really making huge overhaul changes down there in G-ville.

They made huge changes in Basketball in the offseason.

I'm not sure why some of us state fans are so over cocky.... What has state done lately? 6-5? and a win over some directional school in a tire bowl? In fact what has state done in the last decade without Phillip Rivers? The same can be said for ECU without David Garrard.

In a town of around 100,000 people....putting 20,000 in their football stadium is pretty damn good especially in the middle of a coaching transition. They're hoping that Greenville grows to around 180,000 people in the next few years. So putting 60,000 people in that stadium is attainable.

One thing that should help is the recent string of contracts with Va Tech, UVA, UNC and State to play in Greenville and respective schools. ECU fans would pay with their blood to see those teams come into gvegas and get beat.

Some names to look out for when the Pirates roll into CF in this season's last game: James Pinkney and Aundrae Allison.

If you expect to see the same team that you saw in Charlotte a couple years ago, then you're in for a shock.
