so i woke up this morning and all of a sudden my moniitor is different colors. the center of the screen is ok but the edges are a green and purple tint. im assuming my monitor has gone bad just like an old tv that starts to discolor around the edges...whats the consensus on this?

how long have you had the monitor? if its gotten years and years of use it might've gone bad

also depending on your need for the computer you might try powering it down for a couple days and seeing if you notice a difference

also like Kris mentioned, might be some type of magnetic interference...any new devices near the monitor?

just degauss anyway, it won't take but about 2 seconds, then you'll know if it was a magnet or not.

its a button on your monitor or an option in your monitor setup

it will "refresh" your monitor if you will

just keep pushing all the buttons on your monitor untill it flashes and makes a click and it's fixed

How close is your microwave to your monitor (if you are in a dorm)?

And yes, age can play a huge on monitors. I've had some last 10+ years, others die in 5. YMMV.

what happened was probably that the magnets might not be near it but it might be that the magnetic field as weak as it is could have slowly worn away your monitor a little bit affecting it.
its a good idea to degauss every year or so anyway.
