im basically trying to record alot of soccer games this summer on a dvr then
press play and record the output onto a dvd.

Unless you get a TV Tuner card and record the show(s) direct to your PC, then you might be outta luck.

Most cable-company provided DVRs won't allow you to export the media you save in any fashion.

If you're referring to one of those stand-alone players that record TV shows straight to a DVD, those work okay but w/ a PC TV Tuner card you can go in and delete commercials prior to burning...gives you a LOT more options. Plus, having a DVD burner in your PC is never a bad thing.

ive tried the pc and the quality was bad, but with a dvd the cable dude told me i could just start the playing on the dvd and record from the coax output like to a vhs recorder or something else.

oh well

^ Yeah, he was right. They work just like that (I owned one, came for free w/ a TV purchase). The quality is as good as using a TV tuner card.

Here's what you must remember: standard analog television (straight from coax) is only 640x480. If you're playing that back on a 1900x1200 PC monitor or something, it's going to look AWFUL. However, burn that straight to a DVD w/o compression and play it on a TV, it's looks like...normal TV.

Those decks do the job, but having no option to remove commercials sucksss when you can get a decent tuner card for way less than $100.
