yeah basically Lebanese is someone from Lebanon, but you guys should know that Lebanese people are not arabs. Lebanese today were known as Phoenicians. Phoenicians were there way before there was something called arab or a mohamad. Just because they speak arabic, it doesn't make them arabs. We speak english, does that make us english? Israel is located in the middle east, are they arabs?

What's so important about making sure that people understand the Lebanese are not Arab?

Why are you trying to separate the Lebanese from the Arabs?

seriously, there's a huge distinction made by people in the middle east as to their ethnicity. for instance, Iranians are very proud of their Persian heritage, and are quick to point out that they aren't arab.

i think the cultures that come from older civilizations (Lebanese, Egyptians, etc.) tend to view arabs as descended from nomadic tribesmen who didn't join civilization until oil became important in the early 20th century.

but i could be wrong. maybe some native middle eastern person could elaborate.

Then that includes the Sunni Muslims, Shia Muslims, Christians and the Druze. All these groups cannot be solely Phoenicians in origin. Arabs dominated lebanon for 1400 years, so it is kind of silly to claim that all lebanese people do not have any arab blood in them.

Muslim Arabs created the leading civilizations of their time in the 8th century. This was the impetus that lead to the expansion of islamic domination of the world to the extent that spain was under arab rule for 800 years. If arabs did not join civilization until the 20th century then you would not have, for example, referred to Algebra as Algebra.

Syria has fucked with Lebanon for a lot of time and continues to cause a lot of shit there. Lebanese are originally phoenicians. The phoenicians founded Lebanon and started everything way before there was anything called arab or mouhamad. Yeah, if you ask the christians in Lebanon what they are, they will tell you phoenicians yet the muslims will tell you they are arabs. Don't forget that the majority of the phoenicians were christians and spoke the language of Christ, Aramaic. Slowly but surely, the damn arabs started to take that out of the Lebanese people, along with the many different invasions occuring leading to the bullshit we have today.

Let's not forget that phoenicians eventually did speak the language of Jesus Christ. Also, a phoenician city Gubla, known as Byblos gave it's name to the Bible.

Speaking of the Bible, Lebanon is mentioned 75 times in the old testament.
