I don't really care which, as long as there is ocean and a few things to do. Which is the closest of cheapest to go to? We only want to stay saturday night, so any suggestions as to which beach to go to and where to stay (<100 a night ) would be appreciated! 6/6/2006 3:11:59 PM |

well, if you're willing to camp that cuts down on costs quite a bit. the renovated aquarium at pine knoll shores opened up in may. it's supposed to be awesome. 6/6/2006 3:17:39 PM |

Closest = Wrightville Beach 2 hours down I-40
I have stayed at the Baymont Inn & suites there...if you can get a room, it's about $70/night on Expedia. Decent, kick ass free breakfast, maid didn't bitch about 2 cases worth of beer cans in the room.
you'll freeze your ass off in that ocean, though. 6/6/2006 11:30:08 PM |

The water was pretty warm in Atlantic Beach two weekends ago.
I almost swam into a jellyfish. 6/7/2006 11:30:14 AM |

^^^^ 1. 79 is bath water. 2. you have to look at the surface temperature, not at the bottom of the ocean at 200 fathoms(or whatever that 59 corresponds to).
why the hell would you look at WRAL to find the beach surface temperature? those numbers are fucking meaningless. You need to look at the specific location where you'll be swimming(surface) or bottom fishing(check buoy data/your equipment)
If you want something that has more meaning why don't you check surf city surf report or star-news http://www.gosurfcity.com/
well, I see you're from Durham so I guess you don't know better.

Yeah..maybe the 59 would be in northern North Carolina? And including the wind that's always at the beach and the possible rain and maybe a high in the low 80's that's not too warm.
ETA: Bath water temperature = 96-100 degrees Fahrenheit ...for babies. 96-105 for adults. 50-70 degrees is a cold bath.

damn you are an idiot. I was using "bath water" as a figure of speech. I didn't think you were going to go to womenshealthcaretopics.com and find some article defining bath water temperature.
And IMO, 77-80 degrees is perfect for beach water. If it's any warmer you don't feel refreshed when you jump in.

So it makes me an idiot to take what you say and apply it, because if I wasn't one, it would clearly be a figure of speech and I would know it?
Despite the fact I checked a baby book in my house, and you assumed I went to that website? Or that females, like the original poster, frequently have anemia, which makes you even colder than usual anyways? 6/7/2006 1:30:22 PM |

Yes
Quote : | " Despite the fact I checked a baby book in my house, and you assumed I went to that website?" | lol. It doesn't matter where you found it, that's really not the point. It was just a way to say, "Haha, someone went out of their way to find the definition of 'bath water' ".

Well all I can say is I grew up in wilmington, have two sisters, and know plenty of girls that have never had a problem with those specific beach water temperatures.

just because it will be cold at the beach one day doesn't mean the water will be dramatically cooler than it was a week ago

current water temp in the northern outer banks is 60°. That's what all of the lifeguard services are reporting. Heavy winds out of the east/northeast have made it cold in the past few days. 6/7/2006 3:51:49 PM |
