I'm fostering two ferrets, a male and a female. Cubby and Scampers are both fixed and descented.
Their current cage is rusted and the litter tray is corroded so the new owner would have to pay half of the costs of a new cage, and I'd front the other half. I may be able to get a good deal on a cage for them through a connection with the rescue I foster dogs through. I've only checked PetSmart so far, and cages were $110-130. Not as expensive as I thought they'd be.
Their previous owner, user Joeanon, researched and looked around for a while before picking these two out, and he did a great job. Cubby is very chill, and Scampers is a little more rambunctious. They love to play and they're adorable.
They come with plenty of food to last a while.
The process would include the following steps:
1) You visit the ferrets to make sure you'd like to have them (and their previous owner meets you). 2) I visit your home to check out the environment they'd be living in. 3) You take them home.
There are pics in my gallery but I'm going to take better ones next time I let them run around. The ferrets themselves don't smell bad, but their waste is very strong-smelling, so if you don't have the time to commit to cleaning it every couple days, and to let the ferrets run around for exercise for a while each day, do not PM me. 6/6/2006 10:16:18 PM |

We prefer they go together - I'll check with the previous owner since he still has some say in it.
Okay just checked the old thread and he had expressed preference that they are together since they are companions and enjoy playing with each other.

the reason why I asked is because I dont know how much they feed. And together they might require alot of upkeep. 6/8/2006 11:54:24 AM |

I definitely want them kept together. They are buds, and ferrets need a ferret playmate, in addition to their owner, to keep up with them. This will be come very clear when you see them play. They love to chase each other around and under the things, pounce, and wrestle, sometimes at speeds resembling a Tom and Jerry cartoon. And then they like to curl up together and snooze afterwards. 6/8/2006 4:29:51 PM |

padowack - the only difference in upkeep between one and two ferrets is amount of waste. You'd still have to clean the cage out every couple days, and let it exercise the same length of time. Okay there's one other difference - you have to round both of them up when putting them away versus one. 6/10/2006 1:05:51 PM |

I just cradled Cubby around in my arms for a bit. I'm constantly amazed at how calm he is compared to Scampers, who wants to play all the time.
I'm hoping to hear about a potential good deal on a ferret cage from an acquaintance, and just emailed her about it, so I should know within a couple days. 6/15/2006 10:38:00 PM |

My contact is definitely selling her old cage, so I'll keep this updated. If I end up paying for it before these cuties get adopted, I'll make it an adoption fee.

be sure you people know what you are getting into before you take ferrets. You cant go on vacations without putting them in a place that looks after them and they need exercise OUT of their cage at least an hour EVERYDAY http://brentroad.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=415876 heres a cage that would work, it might need ladders though
