Lately my itunes will fuck up every so often and start making cracking and popping noises. Sometimes it will open and when play is pushed, it doesn't play. I tried to open the volume board the other day and it froze and said something about hardware not being available or something. This was fixed upon a restart, but my itunes is still fuzzy every now and then.

What is this? I thought it might be because of system resources, but sometimes itunes runs great with videos and photoshop running at the same time, and other times it shits out on me when there is nothing else running.

Does anyone have any insight as to what this might be?

itunes is a piece of shit.

this is why you have these problems.

try another player like wmplayer, winamp, or whatever.

my iTunes wont even play when I'm syncing files to my iPod, it does the same skippy/crackling play stuff you described

bottom line is iTunes is a POS as far as music player goes

I use Windows Media Player when I am too lazy to build playlists (the autoplaylists are cool)

otherwise Winamp for life.

Ha. Blaming iTunes for a hardware or OS problem. Classic.

Seriously, no one has given me an answer. It isn't the speaker wires. It isn't the fact that I don't use your favorite audio program either. I like itunes, and it has worked fine for me for years on this computer.

What kind of hardware issue could this be?

Is this on a Creative Labs soundcard or builtin sound (Ac '97)?

If its a creative labs product, turn down or off hardware acceleration. If that works, then you need to put the soundcard in a different (higher) pci slot and try again.

It is the standard sound card that came with my dell that I bought back in 03. Nothing special, I think it is just Dell's standard sound card, whatever that may be,

find out what sound card you have. look on the back of the computer and check to see if its onboard sound or an addon card.

your name suggests you're a Mac iHumper

Instead of talking about the diverse sound card manufacturers that MacOS works with, I am just gonna repeat the gtfo.

Clearly we place importance in different areas. You don't have much room to call anyone else a homer, as you tend to toe the line for Dell, Windows, and IE almost exclusively.
