So how come when I sign on with my usual screen name, AIM won't work and gets stuck at "starting services" (#2) and then it simply says The AIM Service Can't Be Reached. Then, when I sign on with another, older screen name...it works?

since there are so many users of AOL and AIM, its possible that the server that hosts your login info is down (there are many servers that run AOL's system)

just try again later

or try AIM Express and see if that works http://www.aim.com/get_aim/express/aim_expr.adp

Yeah. It does this sporadically - like two or three times a week for a few hours+.
