This class is already a pre-req for 212, but isn't on the schedule. Are they just going to waive taking that for people signed up for 212 this next semester? 6/12/2006 8:44:50 AM |

I'm fairly certain you'll be fine if you haven't had this "ECE 109"...it appears to be a new course they just added for some reason.
From the course descriptions for this ECE 109 and ECE 209, it looks they took 206 and broke it into two courses. It sounds like a stupid idea if that's what they're trying to do. I wonder who pushed this "initiative"... 6/12/2006 12:53:46 PM |

I'm not so sure... seems like a lot of CPE's don't learn C as well as they should. I think it's about damned time they forced CPE's to learn how a major high level language is actually run on hardware... especially since all we had going through this program was Java... and good luck learning how a computer runs Java code other than saying "oh, it's interpreted" 6/12/2006 3:29:06 PM |

my understanding is that 109/209 is going to replace csc 116/216 for CPEs and EEs 6/12/2006 6:27:51 PM |

^^^I'm sure this is in response to years and years of comments from Senior Design students about how we lack a good foundation for C while Java is constantly pushed. I think Ozturk mentioned they were finally going to address that issue (which I guess is this new 109/209/309 deal).
I don't think it's a good idea to split up 206 - there's more C needed but I don't quite understand taking two semesters of logic design. I don't see how you could strech out the first half of 206 into a full semester and then on top of that have to take 212...unless they're going to remove 212 (which is basically the first of 206 streched out over a semester). A CPE and EE degree plan is already pushing the maximum number of hours allowed by the university so adding more overlapping classes seems to just compound that problem.
My suggestion would be to keep 206 and 212 and simply add an additional course in C. I think 306 was intended to give more experience with C, but it's not doing that at all.
^I noticed there's a 309 class now and it looks like that will replace 316. So these 3 *09 classes are the end result of rumblings I've been hearing about removing Java I guess. 6/13/2006 9:49:06 AM |

So much for the statement "CPE will keep Java because that is what they need when they go to work" that they kept making. 6/13/2006 10:59:24 AM |
