If you're a student and want a like..part-time-y kind of job, you're pretty much fucked. Wait until the end of the summer when other students quit theirs to go back to school.
I can't tell you how many people (college aged) I've had come into BN asking for applications and for me to tell them a) we don't hire seasonal help and b) we're not hiring. If they wanted jobs that badly, they would've searched over spring break and told the employer they can't start work until May XX

ETA:
Restaurants have a 3 month turnover rate usually. Try there.

They're hiring financial advisors. You'll have to work very hard, though. This is not an easy job, but the benefits are outstanding and the pay is the 8th best of any career in the nation.

what are the qualifications required for the 8th best pay of any career in the nation - and what was used to come up with that # - average starting salary?

Qualifications: BS Degree

You'll also need to get your NASD Series 66 and 7, and NC Life & Health and NC Medicare Supplement & LTC Ins. licenses.

And no. It is not based on starting salary; it's based on the average earnings of financial advisors, tenured and rookies.

^^ It's here:

http://www7.acs.ncsu.edu/student_jobs/selectjobs.html

and it's pretty much useless. New listings are rare and I've tried about a half-dozen of those, they're always occupied or otherwise disappear quickly.

And I really, desperately need a job.

Bullshit.

I've posted at least 10 jobs in the past 2-3 months that are all contract positions for 3-6 months, and gotten almost zero response.

There are TONS of part time jobs available, it's just most kids are too fucking stupid to handle a real job, or are too stupid to realize there are jobs outside of working food service or retail. And they end up working for nothing at barnes & nobles.

First off, only a douchebag would want to work at a chain-anything. Seriously, crap pay and you have no rights.

What you want to do is talk to the career center and try and get some sort of an internship related to your major. If that doesn't work, then try the career center for jobs somewhat related to anything you've done in school. If that doesn't work, then quit school because your major is entirely worthless and you're a moron.

heeey I like working there, thank you very much. of course it's not a real job, but I do get paid quite well for such a cushy job, and they are incredibly flexible with my hours. Plus, discount on textbooks, and coffee. The most of people I work with all have PhD's and are semi-retired, some are former lawyers and whatnot that jsut want to work a few hours a week, but I have made some great connections there. I met the vice dean of Duke's Medical School who talked to me for a while and I've managed to get my foot in the door for a pretty decent internship next summmer...

I'm looking for a job at a place that stays open rather late, as most of my classes are during the morning/afternoon. So are anyplaces hiring in Raleigh for evening/late night shifts? I already applied and went for a tour at the UPS place and they still haven't gotten back with me yet.

How early in the afternoon can you start and how does your driving record look (any points)? I'm sure White Horse will look to fill my spot in a few weeks

I can work probably no earlier that 5. Also I've never been in any accidents or gotten any tickets, but my car isn't that dependable which is one of the reasons I'm looking for a job so hard is so that I can replace it.

I think you may need to be 21+ to work for white horse.... but a clean driving record is a must.

5 PM is a bit too late to start though and expect to make anything... if you can swing 3 PM, it can be worth it. Also be willing to give up 1/2 weekend nights.

an accident involving your vehicle while you aren't in it doesn't go on your record does it?

someone tried to steal something out of my jeep... and kicked it out of gear.

UPS is always hiring from what I hear. I went on the tour, and they said they'd call me back but never did. I applied again and am going to try and get the 10-2 shift. Hopefully I'll get a job soon. Need some computer upgrades!!!
