ok, when i have the ethernet cable plugged directly into my desktop, it will disconnect/reconnect every minute or two

when i plug it in through my router, it disconnects and trys to reconnect just about every second

is the network card fucked up or do i have some kind of virus?

try resetting the router and modem (unplug the power cable for 30 seconds then plug it back in)

Might have to swap the modem in for a different model.

What service provider and modem model are you using?
