have any of you heard about this before? when my beagle gets excited, she starts these "backward sneeze" fits that last about a good minute or so. she's almost 2 and has had these fits ever since she was a puppy. 6/21/2006 2:01:46 PM |

yeah. it is also called a "reversed sneeze". My foster dog does it and his body goes stiff. it usually lasts 45 seconds to a minute 6/21/2006 2:02:58 PM |

^^ when did i ever say i waited 2 years to look at this? first time it happened, i asked the vet. that was over a year and a half ago, and he said it was normal. i thought they would subside as she got older, but they haven't. 6/21/2006 2:07:22 PM |

I've been told that it comes from allergies... and it seems that my dog only does it when it's allergy season 6/21/2006 2:11:32 PM |

is this like a dry-heaving type thing? My dog does some motion sometimes when she's excited..It looks sorta like a dry heavy and it sounds like she is choking, but she'snot and it only last for about 20 seconds or so if that. 6/21/2006 2:22:37 PM |

My dogs do it a lot in the fall and spring....it's allergies. The vet said it was sorta like when our throats get scratchy from allergies.

our 7 year old bichon sneezes a bunch when he gets excited, never seemed like a problem... some dogs jump or bark when they're excited, ours sneezes. 6/21/2006 4:07:12 PM |

my dads keeshond "sneezes" when she gets excited. it is a breed characteristic, called blustering.

my vet said it was related to getting excited/pulling on the leash. She said the "sneezing" was the result of the throat constricting slightly 6/22/2006 2:14:55 PM |

My dog that does it don't use a leash. Where my parents live, they run free. She has a collar, but its not too tight. 6/22/2006 6:28:23 PM |
