So, correct me if I'm wrong, but weeks that are short because of a day of or a break, aren't all labs cancelled for that week? I am specfically looking at Fall Break for my CH 202 lab, which is Wednesday morning. If Fall Break is that Thursday and Friday, then I'll have Wednesday off, too, since it's my only class that day. And since I don't have class on Mondays anyways, my fall break can be from Tuesday night to the next Monday night, and I can have a weeklong fall break. Right? 6/22/2006 5:01:31 PM |

probably so...considering there are many sections for 202. where as my mammology lab is only one section...so i dont get the convenience of having it canceled on short weeks 6/22/2006 5:40:02 PM |

The CH202 lab plan for Fall '06 is already in.
For planning purposes, there will be no CH102/CH202 labs during the week of fall break (October 9 - October 13).
There will also be no CH102/CH202 labs during the week of Thanksgiving (November 20-24) or during dead week (December 4 - December 8).
CH202 labs start on Tuesday, August 29th. Sorry, but to fit them all in and not have labs during dead week, you will also have labs the week of Labor Day (September 4 - September 8). Labs run Tuesday-Friday, so a whole set can be fit in that week.
CH102 labs start on Tuesday, September 5. Again, labs run Tuesday-Friday, so a whole set can be fit in during that week.
CH202 has one more lab than CH102 because of the CH202 skills test lab. 6/22/2006 5:40:21 PM |

Awesome, weeklong Fall Break.
Skills test? What kind of skills msut one demonstrate? Is it just a lab practical? 6/22/2006 6:44:13 PM |

Easy. You're given a target solution concentration. You need to make the target solution two ways.
In the first way, you're given the solid solute. Students need to calculate the amout of solid needed, use the balance properly, transfer the solid to a volumetric flask quantitatively, and add solvent to the volumetric flask calibration mark properly.
In the second way, you're given a concentrated stock solution. Students need to calculate the amount of liquid needed for the dilution, use the pipet properly, and add solvent to the volumetric flask calibration mark properly.
You get 10 minutes for each one, from start to finish. The skills test is scheduled as the 4th lab. Just watch the pipet, analytical balance and volumetric flask videos provided with the lab. Also, pay attention to the activities in Lab 2 (Solutions and Spectroscopy). You are essentially learning the skills during that lab, so don't let your lab partner hog the pipet. The skills test counts as 1 lab grade so it's 1/12 of your overall grade. 6/22/2006 7:00:13 PM |
