They wanted to make it as realistic as possible?

^Why is the entire crowd staring off into space - you'd think they would at least glance in the direction of all the action.

EA's NHLPA 93 & 94 were the best games of all time.

Except maybe Excitebike and Tecmo Bowl...lol

I understand sprinkling in the Oilers fans here and there, but in the picture where Carolina is at home the fans seem to be about a 55%/45% split.

I saw this posted on IGN and I agree 100% with every point:

Quote :
"I'll be happy just so long as the game plays like hockey and not simply ping pong like it has in the past. Don't get me wrong, I played the hell out of NHL 06 but it definitely isn't hockey (something that I think the devs alluded to.) The problems:

1. No dump and chase. The game didn't even look like a real hockey game.

2. No fighting for the puck. The puck simply was magnetically attached to whomever had it, unless it was pokechecked. Obviously, in real hockey two players fight for a puck and a teammate will often join in to help retain possession.

3. Way to much "ping pong" (exchanging breakaways or two on ones the entire game)

4. The defense would not, under any circumstances, impede the other team from having a player sit right in front of the net waiting for a centering pass.

5. Goalies were on par, skillwise, with a blind 9 year-old girl with skinned knees and Tourette's syndrome. Even Kip's save percentage will be .866 during a season.

6. To counteract #5, you can generally score 6-12 goals a game.

7. Every player has the puck control and dekeing ability of Peter Forsberg when Peter chooses to play against the local Special Olympics team.

8. Players like Saku Koivu do the most ignorant, arrogant taunts (like the Hulk Hogan hand to the ear thing... not really realistic)

9. The game should tell you when to dump the puck so that your team can do an automatic line change. This would prevent your team from abandoning an already set up PP to change out.

10. Every arena doesn't have Montreal's ice surface. Anaheim's, for example, begins to suck and suck hard once spring rolls around.

11. The game should play like real hockey and come with a lengthy and in-depth tutorial showing players exactly how to implement strategy and use players effectively.

12. Laser beam passes don't happen in real life.

13. Players often whiff on one-timers.

14. 2/3rds of shots are either blocked or miss the net in real life.

15. Injuries should be of realistic frequency and length. Even with injuries maxed out it is rare for even half the teams to have an injured player and generally that player is only out for a week or two. In real life teams lose between 100-350 player-games due to injuries.

16. Simulation hockey is much more interesting than arcade hockey. Madden takes football seriously. Why can't EA take hockey seriously?"

Yeah, I've got all that stuff. It definitely made the game playable, but far from what it should be. I've never tried 2k6 as I don't have a console and am limited to whatever is released for the PC.

yeah hopefully they won't fuck up NHL 07 and maybe i'll try that.

luckily i ended up buying nhl 2k6 and that game is really addicting.. as long as they don't fuck up the same things in 2k7 as they did in 2k6.. both games had major problems but 2k6 had far less than 06.

2k6 just had the loading screen problem where you would sit on the loading screen forever and it wouldn't go away as soon as you finished a game etc. but loading a bunch of games and coming back seems to fix that.

ea sports always puts way too much graphics into their menus, yes it looks cool but i'd rather be able to get to the menu in less than a couple seconds rather than wait 10 seconds to see really good looking stuff

oh and maybe 2k will get the woo song and the red strip around the arena when a goal is scored since we got the cup this year, and maybe a couple more details of the rbc center, some of the teams when you play them at home have their goal songs and stuff

Looks like the best place for information will be this thread: http://www.doubleminor.net/forums/showthread.php?t=32086

Sounds like the next-gen game is going to be incredible, but I have no intention of buying an Xbox 360 just to play one game, so I guess it's the current-gen version on PC for me.

which one to buy?

I have been a big fan of the 2K series hockey games, so I will probably stick with that for this coming season.

Anyone have a preference?

One thing to keep in mind: For NHL 07, the Xbox-360 is the ONLY platform getting the next-gen version. All other platforms will be the current-gen, which is basically an improved NHL 06. I imagine PS3 and PC will go next-gen for NHL 08.

"NHL 2K7 soundtrack goes indie
Sub Pop Records acts including Sleater-Kinney, Hot Hot Heat, Mudhoney provide music to hipcheck by.
By Brendan Sinclair, GameSpot
Posted Aug 2, 2006 9:49 am PT

With the NHL off-season already about half over, it's time for hockey fans to gear up for the preseason, and with it the annual releases of league-licensed games from 2K Sports and Electronic Arts. EA tipped its hand on the bands contributing to the NHL 07 soundtrack last month, and 2K Sports shot back today with its own list of big-name bands for NHL 2K7.

Rock is the order of the day for both games, but where EA showed punkish tendencies with its lineup, 2K Games has enlisted acts from the indie pioneers at Sub Pop Records to provide the tunes for NHL 2K7. The featured acts in 2K7 include the soon-to-be-defunct Sleater-Kinney, Band of Horses, Hot Hot Heat, Mudhoney, and The Postal Service. In total, Sub Pop artists will provide 12 of the soundtrack's 18 songs.

NHL 2K7 is set for a September release on the Xbox 360, Xbox, and PlayStation 2, with a PlayStation 3 release to follow before the end of the year. The game's full soundtrack is listed below.

Artist--Song--Label
Arlo--"Runaround"--Sub Pop
Band of Horses--"Wicked Gil"--Sub Pop
The Constantines--"Working Full-Time"--Sub Pop
Dozer--"Drawing Dead"--Small Stone
Green Carnation--"Pile of Doubt"--The End
Grinder--"Be Me"--Grinder LLC
Hot Hot Heat--"Talk to Me, Dance With Me"--Sub Pop
Jupiter Hills--"The Fool"--None
Kinski--"Hot Stenographer"--Sub Pop
Love as Laughter--"Temptation Island"--Sub Pop
Mudhoney--"Empty Shells"--Sub Pop
Nebula--"Giant"--Sub Pop
The Postal Service--"Brand New Colony"--Sub Pop
Recliner--"Can't Deny"--Poison Pen
Seaweed--"Losing Skin"--Sub Pop
Sleater-Kinney--"Rollercoaster"--Sub Pop
The Thermals--"I Hold the Sound"--Sub Pop
Throttlerod--"Big Name"--Small Stone"

ea's nhl 07 is supposed to have a demo coming out, it was supposed to come out last week but was delayed a few days i guess...theyve already said the demo is just a shootout so that you can get used to the new puck handling and controls...theres no turbo button anymore (good players are fast, bad players are slow) and you have to use both sticks to control, left stick to control the player and right stick for puck handling/shooting

The NHL 07 demo for Xbox 360 will be released soon. It is doubtful that demos will be released for the other platforms because they probably don't want people to discover that it's basically the same game as 06 until after they've already forked over thier $texas.
