So I have a huge spreadsheet, 3000 rows by about 30 columns

I have to go through the spreadsheet and delete all rows that have a certain value in a certain column.

For example, every row that has "Yes" listed under column R needs to be deleted. All those with "No" need to be kept. I thought I had it by sorting the column but the rows became all jumbles because they did not stay attached to the columns. The column was arranged so that I could delete the half of the sheet with the "YES" answers but with different corresponding rows now, so I was deleting the wrong rows now.... Dumb it down for me plz....

Huh? You should be able to select all the data you want to sort, and sort by the intended column, and the data will stay together. Then just delete out the Yes rows. You did something wrong.

That is, if you select all 30 columns and 3000 rows, the data will stay together, I promise (Bill Gates does too).

select the column you want, go to Data->Filter->Autofilter

Then select the value you want in the dropdown thats next to the column header. Delete those rows, turn off the filter the same way, and save the file

the sort featured worked for the Yes/No column... It kept the rows attached.. So i could delete all the "Yes" responses since I did not need those. There is also a column with #'s that I tried doing the sort, but it would not keep the rows correctly for some reason. Then I also have a column of "Specialties" that I'm going through using Noen's info..

Thx guys. But any reason why the #'s didn't sort while staying intact with the rows???

you probably highlighted them all by drag selecting horizontally across the columns at the top of your spreadsheet

That sounds like a product of the filtering you did, assuming you did that.
