For a guy (or girl) to go to a strip club.
It is a form of entertainment and relaxation. The girls (or guys) choose to work there. It is a well paying job, that is relatively safe.

When a guy goes to a club, they are automatically looked down on regardless of their reasons for going.

I don't usually post in this section, so I don't have any idea of the responses I am going to ger.

Are you talking about people who work at strip clubs or the people who are patrons of strip clubs? I want to say that you're referring to the former.

I suppose it's a lot like any entertainment job, whether it's a writer, an artist, or an actor (albeit actors get shit tons more praise and attention than they necessarily deserve). Lots of people pay the money in order to see the work, but nobody really considers it a "real" job. People consider those types of jobs as the kind of work that nobody does unless they're desparate, or that these jobs don't actually produce anything of value, and so the people who work in those industries must therefore be worthless. In the case of strip clubs, I guess it's seen as the same as prostitution; the use of one's own sexuality to make money. As to why our society looks down upon people who use their sexuality to etch out a living, I couldn't tell you that. I'm tempted to say that it's due to our nation's Puritan heritage.

Because it implies that you cannot get that entertainment at home.

Its a funny thing, since mainstrem hollywood produces 'entertainment' of similar "low" value yet are praised for it. Its also ok for mainstream actors/resses to show lots of skin... for some reason sex in this country has to be somewhat covered up and interspersed with violence.

It's a symbol of promiscuity. Some people hate that. Some people hate sex in general, too. Note that only these people take themselves seriously.

And because guys go there for the sole purpose of 'TNA'. (In most cases.)

haha, this quesiton is laughable

I went to one once, for a bachelor's party, and the amount of old men there, and the looks on their faces, was horrible. And this was a fairly nice strip club as far as they go.

It's frowned upon for the same reasons pornography and prostitution are frowned upon. They are all variations of sexual stimulation in exchange for money.

And I've only see two things happen to a girl after she becomes a stripper:

A) She becomes addicted to the lifestyle that comes along with it- Fast and easy money along with lot of alcohol or drug use (particularly cocaine)

B) She runs as fast and far away from the industry as she can

Every single one of my experiences with strip club employees have led me to believe that they aren't places to revere.

Perhaps they could be better though if they weren't looked down upon and therefore attracting the seedier element.

It is not because they are looked down upon that the seedier element goes there. I think you have your cause/effect relationship reversed.

To be honest, I never thought much of strip clubs. It really isn't that difficult to get laid so why pay for a cock tease. Besides, great sex with someone you love is infinitely better than a peep show.

BridgetSPK you make me laugh. This is really an interesting thought, no kidding. Wrong, very very wrong. But interesting.

Instead of punishing criminals or trying to shame them into changin their behaviour we should just say black is white and right is wrong so then the squares will be groovy and the hippies will get a job, or something like that. I suppose if you buy into moral relativism you might have something here.

Strip club attendance considered quite acceptable in certain circles. For example, Magic: The Gathering tournament players generally encourage it.
