so i finally saw some of this movie, the last 30 minutes, and it was crazier than any tarantino movie i ever saw.

first Red, the maid dude, is like "scarlet look at my hands i can rip you to pieces ....."
then rapes her, then he asks for a divorce and leaves
then comes back to find she's pregnant and throws her down a flight of stairs and kills the baby
in the next scene he apologises and as hes doing so they watch their daughter fall off a horse and die,
then their friend dies in the next scene then they split up
wtf, i thought this is a old nice movie, i was wrong

but it justifies my earilier thread about this topic

Second largest? That wouldn't impress Rick. The leading banker in Amsterdam is now the pastry chef in our kitchen.

My desire to see this movie diminishes each day. The only way ill ever see GWTW is if i ever finish my goal of watching every movie on the IMDB top 250 list.

The movie was boring. Like a Tarantino movie.
The book is great.

my grandmother went to see it in the theater back in the day. She got half way through then left at the intermission because she thought it was the end.

I liked the movie when I saw it, but I remember very little of the plot, it's not bad if you are suitably bored.

Huh. We've always owned it and I've never had an urge to watch. My parents never even took it out of the shrink wrap. And I'm from Atlanta.

accident

rhett--not red--was in love with scarlett, obviously, but she would never really LET him love her b/c she was in love with two other things...Ashley (which she only thought she loved) and Terra (her home...which she loved and didn't know it). the daughter that dies was the one thing that Rhett gets to spoil like he wanted to do to Scarlett. Rhett wanted a divorce b/c Scarlett would never come around...their daughter's death however seals the deal. It is during their friend's death that Scarlett realizes she really loves Rhett, not Ashley...but Rhett's already made up his mind to leave. After Rhett says "frankly my dear i don't give a damn" (a VERY controversial ending line during this era) she realizes in order to get Rhett back she's got to focus on her main love...Terra.

If you watch the whole movie you'd see that Scarlett would do ANYTHING for her home...even hurt the man she actually loves, Rhett, but doesn't know it b/c she's so blinded by everything else.

The last 30 minutes is the tragic end that takes her back home...all the hype leading up to it is pretty good. (imho)

I grew up watching this movie b/c my grandmother loved it...I understand why people wouldn't like it...but I love this movie.

sorta...Gone with the Wind was a book originally by Margaret Mitchell...the book ends with all these questions unanswered like the movie. later on Alexandria Ripley writes Scarlett, the sequel to Mitchell's book...this was never made into a major motion picture, but a made for TV movie around the time GWTW was re-released in the late 90s

oh and it was horrible

I've often speculated why you don't return to America. Did you abscond with the church funds? Run off with a senator's wife? I like to think you killed a man. It's the romantic in me.

anyone have a link to that thread where the guy was ranting about how good some movie was, and he was really talking about Casablanca?

Wasn't that a Gone with the Wind thread?

^Quotes from Casablanca in this thread are either because:

a)Casablanca is better
b)Ingrid is hotter
c)making fun of that thread

In my case it is because of all 3.

Ha.

Apparently, when Gone With The Wind was released, a lot of Southerners (particularly in Atlanta, Georgia, I am pretty sure it was released there) were mad because it was thie ultimate epic Southern Novel, and Vivien Leigh is a British actress. They wanted a true American to play it, someone who represented the south.
