congrats on proving you're truly an asshole, not just playing one on tww. i might understand not being willing to help if you yourself didn't post like a dick 99% of the time, but you do. right down to your intial reply to him. hell, the dude even told you he was sorry.

you also obviously missed the part where they were told it would be treated as a free standing storage building, which does not neccesitate any such inspection. personally, i would fight the inspections department over it. maybe they have and come up empty, i don't know.

I found this thing burried on the 3rd page. That is how you know things are bad.

Matt, you really should call them at least twice a day man or until you finally get hold of the guy. You are paying them for this service and this kind of customer service they are giving you is crap.

So, an update.

The first structural engineer failed the soil quality so we are in need of finding another one who is a bit more slack. The only thing with the soil is that there is a lot of rocks and stuff in it so it is a bit loose. Any connections would be appreciated. This thing is at a stand still until we can get this taken care of.

The shingles are on the roof and the siding is sitting inside the garage waiting for the proper inspections so we can finish this thing up.

Who did you use before & what specifically did their report indicate? Soil with 'lots of rocks in it' shouldn't necessarily be a problem.I usually recommend ECS (787-5124), no idea on cost though.

Have to ask Jeepman or 69 on that one. I have no idea. I just live there and I have a lot of work on my YJ planned for the future and would like to get out of the 2' tall grass to do it.

1. we do have a lawnmower and gas. this will solve the 2' tall grass problem.

2. for the past 8 months it hasn't been a problem since it's just been sitting.

3. for some odd reason work has still been completed at the house even though the garage hasn't been finished. if you really want to get work done, the garage not being done shouldn't stop you.

I wasn't complaining that the garage wasn't getting done and I have been working on the YJ.

I was just trying to see if I could help with progress on the garage.

Hey Jeepman and 69. Ive been following your garage build from the start. I cant believe all the crap you are having to go through with the city. Long story short - I hired a contractor to build a 2 car garage for me. We applied for the permit but was rejected due to the fact that my lot needed to be recombined. Any way we still built it. I did get caught but a friend of my father who is a lawyer said just to go to the inspection dep. and act dumb. All I needed to do was to get a permit (paid regular price no fine )and have it inspected - framing and electrical. If I had never applied I dont think I would have gotten caught. They had a application on file that was open so they went check and found that it was built already. Most of the people at the city were mostly stupid. I never had to do a soil check - he did check the footings and then the electrical. I think I still have all the info and contact names if you need any - just send me a pm
Good luck!

I've got to say that place is really looking nice! You all considering doing side work repairing vehicles back there? Or are you just going to have the car guy's dream garage in your backyard until you all move?

Also, do you have any way to lock the garage at night so people can't just lift up the doors and walk on in there? I mean either an actual lock or something extremely ghetto like a piece of rebar wedged in the rail (it's all good ).

the roll up doors don't have some sort of lock built in? mine has a slide lock thing that goes into the track (only accessable from the inside).
