With the Morrison pick and all the buzz surrounding his first few weeks and the players coming back from injury (May and Okafor) I figured this would be a good place for Bobcats fans to read the updates

i heard that the charlotte tarheels are playing 2 exhibition games in the dean dome this year.

i can see it now...its the year 2015 and after losing money for 13 years in charlotte, bob johnson drafts every eligible tarheel for 3 seasons and moves the team to chapel hill. in the upgraded dean dome there is now a shrine displaying dean smith's dead body. michael jordan, ed cota, vince carter and antawn jamison run the front office with bernie bickerstaff still at head coach. the teams still wins 20 games/yr but sells out every game.

thats super funny.

i'm interested in seein if curtis withers can make the team. they've had positive things to say about him after the first few days of practice, and he's an nba caliber athlete. they said that he's been like reggie evans, in that he's been basically a hustle player so far. i know he's got more offensive game than evans though....i'd really like to see him make it.

"Morrison joins veterans at Bobcats summer camp

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Adam Morrison worked his way off a back cut, caught a perfect pass from Raymond Felton, and hit a one-handed, contested shot in the lane.

The Charlotte Bobcats hope to see that sort of move often next season.

Morrison, the No. 3 pick in last week's NBA draft, joined veterans Felton, Emeka Okafor and Sean May for the start of the team's summer camp Monday night. Morrison and Felton seemed to click as they played on the same team in a full-court scrimmage.

"He's obviously a great point guard. This is a period of adjusting as players, so this should be good," Morrison said. "I was excited to be out there, the guys were cool. It was fun to be playing 5-on-5 again."

Bobcats' Morrison Puts on Scoring Show
In the CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, Rick Bonnell writes that "the Charlotte Bobcats drafted Adam Morrison third overall last week. Wednesday night he demonstrated why, scoring in nearly every way conceivable to bring his team back from a 23-point deficit and win an intrasquad scrimmage. The unofficial tally had Morrison with 28 points, about 20 in the second half. It wasn't so much the numbers as the spectrum of scoring skills he demonstrated.""

Lynn Greer could really ball for Temple.

I guess he was too little to play the NBA 2 and not quick enough to play the point.

hey TreeTwista10, you dumb twat, of course we all know they drafted two UNC players last year. i was making light of the fact jordan is part of the franchise now and they're playing exhibitions in the dean dome. try to catch on, i know we're moving a little quick here. i think i'm a little too clever for you, in fact. at least understand the joke before you try to call someone out.

Come on now guys

Quote :
"Raymond Felton wants to lead the Charlotte Bobcats. Because of that, he's working overtime.

Felton doesn't have to attend the Bobcats' minicamp this week. It's really for rookies and a few veterans returning from serious injury. Felton fits into neither category.

But he's here anyway, practicing daily, pushing himself to become more of a leader and more of a player.

It's the same work ethic Felton has exhibited in his career. Thankfully, it didn't disappear once the millions started arriving.

Throughout June, Felton and current NBA star Antawn Jamison were regulars at the Bobcats' practice arena. They met three times a week at 9 a.m. to get in a workout. Jamison stars for the Washington Wizards, but the two are linked by their Tar Heels heritage.

Now Felton is trying to put his stamp on the Bobcats' younger members, feeling like a veteran at age 22. A basketball junkie, he prefers not to have much time off.

"So why not come out, work with the guys and show my leadership?" he said Wednesday. "I'm here to help. But this is also helping me."

Felton said his advice for Adam Morrison and the Bobcats' other youngsters is simple: "Stay hungry -- because at the beginning of the season it's not going to always go the way you want it. You're not going to jump out and play a great deal of minutes. You might sit down for the first 10-15 games and not see the court. But you have to come in and practice with a positive attitude. Then, when your time comes, you've got to perform."

Felton averaged 11.9 points and 5.6 assists as a rookie point guard for the Bobcats last season. His durability was admirable. He once told me his rule of thumb was "If I ain't dead, I'm playing." Out of 82 games, on an injury-plagued team, Felton played in 80.

Felton is quick, tough and nowhere close to perfect. He hit only 39 percent of his shots last season and sometimes got in trouble by dribbling too much.

One thing for certain: Felton likes to take clutch shots in the fourth quarter.

"I love the pressure," he said. "If it doesn't go in and it works out badly, before the media blames anyone else, I want you to blame me. Some guys can't take that. That might mess the rest of their season up. I take that as motivation. I love stuff like that."

Morrison will need to be like that in the NBA as well. The Bobcats have too often frittered away fourth-quarter leads in their brief existence.

What are Felton's first impressions of Morrison?

Said Felton: "He's a guy who's a good shooter but not a great one. He knows how to score. Like (Michael) Jordan says, he's going to give us buckets in the fourth quarter. The biggest thing is he's definitely going to have to get stronger. Once he starts getting the minutes, he will be a great player."

Interesting synopsis. And since it's based on Felton seeing Morrison up close far earlier than most of Charlotte has, it's easy to believe.
"

Felton and May's Charlotte Bobcats are involved in both exhibition games, including an Oct. 17 matchup against Haywood and Jamison's Washington Wizards, and an Oct. 27 game against Williams and the Atlanta Hawks.

This is good news...

Quote :
"May, the 13th overall pick in the 2005 draft, cleared up any lingering questions about his injured knee with a dominant showing for the Charlotte Bobcats. May, whose rookie season was limited to 23 games because of season-ending knee surgery, looked trim and agile in the Bobcats' 83-65 throttling of Miami. May's dazzling performance -- 22 points, seven rebounds and six steals -- even overshadowed Adam Morrison's debut.

May showed off the work he's put in this summer, displaying his newfound shooting range. He repeatedly stepped away from the basket for face-up jumpers and even made a 3-pointer. Said May: "I'm just trying to extend my game and show that I'm not just a back-to-the-basket player."
"

And this is bad news....
Quote :
"
Morrison had his "Welcome to the NBA" moment early in Monday's game when his first NBA shot attempt was swatted by Wright.

But Morrison did go right back at Wright, hitting a short jumper on an out-of-bounds play and shaking free for another shot with a nifty ball fake.

Overall, the night was a tough one for the Bobcats rookie, the No. 3 pick in the draft. Morrison made only 3-of-14 field-goal attempts and scored just 12 points -- about 16 fewer than he averaged per game while leading the nation in scoring last season at Gonzaga.

Afterward, he admitted to having some nerves.

"There were some jitters because this was my first NBA-type game," said Morrison, who added five assists, four rebounds and a blocked shot. "I was a little nervous and I rushed my shot too much. But with all of the other things, I thought I played a decent game. I stayed in front of my man, ran the floor and made some good passes. I just want to help this team win."
"

In addition to Morrison’s 29 points, Sean May finished with 15 points, a team-best seven rebounds and four blocked shots. Alan Anderson added 15 points, Fischer scored nine points, Kevin Burleson tallied eight and Brett Blizzard added seven off the bench.

glad to see he played better...

im not really worried about him being able to score as much as am being able to defend... if he can score ~25 a game then he's a great pick... but if he can only score ~15 then he's a bust.

I would say that Morrisons best bet would be, if the Bobcats bring in a guy via free agent market who is a talented scorer and picks up a double team... Morrison would become that first or second pass out of the double and would give him better looks at the basket... but if he is the guy the defense keys on, that will be trouble for him

Quote :
"The Bobcats improved to 3-0 in the Orlando Summer League with a 103-87 win over the host Magic, as seven players scored seven points or more and the team committed only seven turnovers.

Pacing the way with 24 points for Charlotte was Morrison, who was supported by 16 points from May, 14 from Brett Blizzard, 13 from Curtis Withers, eight from D’or Fischer and seven points and a team-best 11 rebounds from Marcus Campbell. Burleson and Steve Burtt also scored seven points.

Morrison knocked down three straight baskets early in the third period to boost Charlotte’s advantage to 64-45. Orlando reduced the margin to 64-58 with 3:41 left in the third quarter after a 13-0 run before Withers stopped the run with a layup. The Bobcats built the advantage back up to 77-62 after the third quarter as Morrison scored eight points in the period and May added six points.

Charlotte hit .478 from the field for the game and connected on .868 (33-38) from the free throw line."

well we definitely need a center....i think may is best suited off the bench. i think wallace would be best as a 6th man, so i'd like to get a SG that can provide some points to go along with morrison. the problem with oden is i dont think we're going to do badly enough this year to have a reasonable shot at the #1 pick.

I went to Charlotte last year, and I can say the way Curtis Withers played his senior season, he was not at all a hustle player. Far from it. Also he would show up some nights and then completely dissapear on others. He has also has a few character issues. I still support him however and would love to see him make the Bobcats roster. He has an enormous amount of potential, and was once seen as a top 15 pick until his lackluster senior season. I really hope he has turned his attitude around and has the determination to make it.

I dont think we will either

Picking first can be a blessing and a curse... you normally pick the best talent, but drafting lower gives you the option of drafting the best available or what your team needs the most...

The Bobcats will hopefully take care of what they need most via free agents...

gg May and Morrison

The elite talent in next year's draft class right now looks like big men and swing men... there aren't really any guards who project as early lottery picks as of right now...

Even if we can't get Greg Oden, there will be guys like Noah, Durant, Brandan Wright, etc available probably...

We're probably best off taking the best available talent at our pick and signing a true SG through free agency... I see Wallace/Morrison being good complements for each other so that Wallace can play when we need a stopper and Morrison when we need a scorer...

With Felton at point we're going to look to really push the tempo I would think so I could see Okafor eventually playing a lot of center and us fazing out Brezec to play run & gun.... in order for this to happen though we'll need a super athletic PF/C (Brandan Wright? Joakim Noah?) to play along with Okafor.

Imagine a lineup of Felton, free agent SG, Wallace, Noah, Okafor....

Then when we want to slow it down we can counter with Brevin Knight, SG, Morrison, May, Brezec

That's a pretty solid 9 man rotation right there.... we definitely have the cap room to land a big name FA and we should get a pretty solid draft pick in '07...

There's also potential for us to try to work out a sign/trade deal for a veteran stuck on a loser like Ray Allen in Seattle or perhaps Jason Richardson in Golden State....

The key is to be patient. We don't want to saddle ourselves with any bad contracts (like a Jamal Crawford) or any aging/injury prone underachievers (Peja Stojakovic). This is the one area where I do NOT trust Jordan unfortunately...

The thing I'm really curious to see is what we do with Okafor at the conclusion of next season. He will be eligible for an extension...If we choose not to extend after next season we'll still have a team option for his 4th season and he'll be a restricted FA going into year 5... If he can't stay healthy then we need to be wary of offering him ~$10 mil a season. If we sign him to a huge deal (not a max deal, no fucking way we're that stupid) and he misses 55 games a year on a SPRAINED ankle we could really limit the franchise's potential for a few seasons...

^ no, but Seattle clearly isn't interested in winning right now as evidenced by their three consecutive draft picks spent on project centers and by letting their head coach and all of their free agents walk the past two years (except Ray).

So it seems likely he'll be on the move soon, he's getting older...

Bobcats Sign Othella Harrington

The Bobcats strengthened their frontcourt with the signing of free agent forward Othella Harrington.

The 6-9, 235-pounder has appeared in 661 career NBA games (263 starts) and has averaged 7.7 points and 4.6 rebounds, which has included stints with Houston, Vancouver, New York and Chicago.

“Othella complements our team well and is a veteran player who can serve as a mentor to our younger players in the frontcourt,” Bobcats General Manager & Head Coach Bernie Bickerstaff said. “He brings the toughness that we have displayed in our first two seasons and he understands his role in the team concept on both ends of the floor.”

Harrington spent the last two of his 10 NBA seasons with the Bulls and averaged 6.4 points and 3.1 rebounds in 142 games. He has also appeared in 28 career playoff games with the Rockets, Knicks and Bulls.
