I initially wrote this off as a shitty remake in the tradition of Starsky and Hutch and Dukes of Hazzard, but after seeing trailers and reading up on it a bit, it has become one of like three movies I'm looking forward to this summer.

Oh shit I didn't even realize.

Oh well, when Gladiator came out they used Bawitaba da bang da bang diggy diggy diggy in the trailers and that still turned out extremely well.

Let's hope it's not a "Starsky", tho I'm getting a very Bad Boys II vibe, maybe it's the miami thing. Still the only movie that I actually want to see this summer. (Superman at IMAX was surprisingly good tho)

Rolling Stone wrote that there's a shoot-out at the end that's supposed to be better than the bank robbery shootout in Heat.

That was enough for me.

^Yes he was the executive producer. He never directed a single episode, but his hands were all over the production of the show during the first two years. "Evan","Out where the busses don't run" and "Definitely Miami" are some classic episodes from the first two years.

That should be enough reasoning.

Not knocking the two struck films. It's just Heat is completely awesome. Supposedly Miami Vice has a shootout that upstages the bank robbery scene in Heat.

[Edited on July 25, 2006 at 8:06 PM. Reason : according to Rolling Stone, that is.]

Saw it today and as usual Michael Mann delivers. The basic storyline (and the trailer park scene) is taken from the "Smugglers Blues" episode from the first season.
