there are too many people in the West who refuse to see that we are involved in what is a very real and seminal struggle against Jihadists. They are not freedom fighters, nor terrorists, although they use terror as a tactic. They must be understood for what they are: Islamic warriors bent on restoring a global khalifate through armed struggle. And that is what makes this a “real war” and not a global criminal action. 7/7/2006 5:42:00 PM |

You know the whole time we had the power to deny them this jihad, but our president chose the road they (the jihadist) wanted most after 9/11. I wish there was a magic wand to fix all this mess, but untill we stop interacting totally with the middle east, their oil, ongoing Isreali conflict it's not going to get any better. Of course one would say the isolation path will not prevent another 9/11, but atleast this country's resources wont be wasting away in religious blood feud thats not going to end anytime soon. Thats my take on it. Even if we were to take it to the terrorist we would need a lot more boots on the ground just to get Iraq and Afghanistan secure. We've got the troops, the question is why this administration isn't totally commiting itself to the war. 7/7/2006 8:43:46 PM |

Surely, nothing more could have sapped the wind from bin laden's sails then a pacifist response from 9/11. A response incouraging acceptance of 9/11 as a day to learn from, not a day to kill for. I could go on and on about the what ifs, but it's a simple fact that terrorist are out for the media attention. Their cause thrives from it and without it they are just another angst ridden group whoring for attention. Imagine if we spent 200 billion dollars instead on securing borders, airlines, and diplomacy that involved international support against extremist groups. Thats the road we should have taken. Should have.

yyyyyyyyeah. I can only imagine that doing nothing would have emboldened bin laden. Saying "oh, we should learn from this" would put it in his mind and the minds of his followers that they could attack the US w/ impunity. AND, it would also put into their warped minds the notion that they can and need to "teach" the US 7/7/2006 9:03:35 PM |

Oh you've got the wrong idea here. Sorry, I should have clarified that when I said "international support against extremist groups" meant organizing unilateral policing of terrorist so they can be brought forth to justice. I didn't mean for it to sound like I wanted the U.S. to just lie down and take the hit.

u guys? I guess you're refering to democrats. Unfortunately they went along with Bush's warplans. Me, i'm just looking at the context of the situation. After 9/11 we had support across the world, even the middle east. Sadam himself sent condolences, that's a fact. Why didn't we use this to our advantage? 7/8/2006 8:42:20 AM |

Yeah, "democracy, pluralism, human rights, freedom of belief, freedom of expression, freedom of ownership, personal freedom, and free market policies?" are clearly being threatened by a bunch of dipshits with bombs.
As soon as they raise more money than is contained in all of the Middle East to fund an army capable of doing all this. 7/10/2006 2:48:34 PM |

Because radical Islamic fundamentalists are so very representative of Islam as a whole.
And Islam as a culture is so much more powerful than Western culture.
