Moby was actually pretty active in the hardcore scene in the early 80's. He played with the Vatican Commandos from Connecticut who released three records and were put on a bunch of comps and a couple of the BCT tapes.

That's up for debate. I'll admit that most of their records are of the KBD punk style, but their last records, Earth AD and Die Die My Darling are straight up 80's hardcore. Couple that with the fact that during those records Robo from Black Flag was playing for drums with them, and that at the last show they ever played (in Michigan I believe) Jonathan Brannon from Negative Approach sang a couple of songs with them, that's more than enough for them to be in this movie. I'm pretty suprised that they got left out.

Also, anybody interested in this movie should check out the book American Hardcore, which was the basis for the documentary. It's a great resource for information about the early 80's movement.

But of course. That old CT stuff, like CIA and 76% Uncertain, all fucking rips. I actually don't care for the Vatican Commandos that much though, although I've been told Hit Squad for God is the record to listen to.

On the website it says that the Misfits are discussed, and I'm almost positive they're covered in the book.

Danzig is less of a douche than Jerry. Danzig is playing with Doyle again...but Jerry is the one refusing to do a real reunion. Glenn has stated recently that hes willing to talk about it, but jerry is being a fruit

no. it's 20-some years after the fact. i don't think anyone expects it to trump decline. i'm more excited about seeing old fuckers like vic bondi saying what they have to say...that, and i'm wishing for some zero boys footage. i don't think there is any in there, though.

ha, i wish i could've been there tonight to see the "punk as fuck" crowd. as a normal guy who was part of the punk scene in the past (as young as age 10) i would've loved to seen it, but my nana's visitation kept me from being there. i will see it in the next few days.

It really wasn't a "punk as fuck" crowd. It was mostly the 24+ year olds who have been in it just as long as you and aren't going anywhere.

Hope that doesn't disappoint.

Danzig was a dick for 20 years, and now it's Jerry's fault because he doesn't want to get back together? I disagree.

I like Moby's part in "Boston Beatdown."

As for the dancing thing, I think Raleigh is heavily rooted in metal and it just doesn't really get down like that. It has been that way around here as long as I've been coming here for shows (around 1994.) Wilmington and Richmond are not that far away, but hardcore shows there are a completely different scene. I remember one of the first hardcore shows I went to in Richmond back around 1997 people were running off the stage and trying to run across the heads and shoulders of the crowd. I was thinking that if you did that in NC you'd probably get fucked up.

i went to the colony. the street was full of punks. they had spikes. the film was okay. there was zero boys and die kreuzen footage which was pretty fucking cool. i wish they'd focused on the midwest more, but all in all, it was a good flick.

i was really excited about the end, because as steven blush puts it in the book, hardcore died in '86. how would the younger punk kids react to that? some people were bummed. some people were pissed. hopefully the youngins can prove old blush wrong and start some raging hardcore bands.

as far as raleigh history, mike and reed from coc are in it briefly, as is the brewery and some super short footage of old nc shows and fliers.

headwalking is a more respectable art than karate. at least a lot of the norma jean white belts are getting into shit like terror, which can in turn get them into gorilla biscuits, which can then get them into real hardcore.

Different Mike Patton. This Mike Patton was in Middle Class and produced the Adolescents LP.

As for the movie, I thought it was kinda weak. No mention of any of the zines, it mostly left out anything about the labels (with the exception of a brief bit on SST) and, even though they covered some rad bands and the Die Kreuzen footage almost made me drop a load in my britches, there were some glaring omissions such as Negative Approach, who only got a brief video clip, Crucifix, RKL, and DI.

And just why was he a dick for those 20 years? Because he couldnt deal with Jerry and Doyles drug habbits and egos? Because he didnt feel the need to let two guys live off his songs and name? If you read any interviews with Glenn after the break up, Doyle and Jerry were the cause of the demise.

this really has nothing to do with hardcore but the "I wanna be your dog" cover on the Sonic Youth album Confusion is Sex was recorded at the Pier in Raleigh.

alittle Raleigh info for ya.
