I have a bunch of pans through mishaps and roommates using pam to bake things (sigh) they are nasty and almost unusable. Instead of buying 20 new pans, I'd like to clean them.
Anyone used any of the heavy chemicals or methods to get them clean? These are non-stick pans so I can't use varsol or anything that corrosive. I've tried soaking them in dawn for 2 days with no luck at all.
Thanks! 7/8/2006 11:16:24 AM |

baking soda
put a little in the pot or pan, add a little water to make it like a paste
let it sit for a few min then wash it out

Go to a lake and find some clay. The clay/mud mixture works wonders. 7/8/2006 12:03:17 PM |

use an abrasive cleaner such as comet or ajax with a scrubber, and shit should be as good as new. 7/8/2006 4:13:00 PM |

I'm looking for something that is NON ABRASIVE. Non stick pans, like the ones in the grocery store can be scratched up using ajax. 7/8/2006 7:01:01 PM |

That's all we used when I worked at a movie theatre ... and it would get damn near anything off. They have some "soft" steel wool pads that won't scratch the crap out of the metal.7/8/2006 9:04:14 PM |

perlith you were using stainless steel pans and equipment. The non stick coating they put on the pans that are less expensive will come off. You don't use anything metal against their surfaces. I'd would replace them but it's expensive for the amount that I have.
I'll try the baking soda trick. 7/8/2006 10:55:37 PM |

this is why you should never buy ANY teflon coated pans. If you burn the pan you risk loose burned teflon in your food, plus they are hard to clean. Just spend the cash to get heavy grade steel baking sheets and pans, and some cast iron stovetop stuff, or even pyrex oven and stovetop stuff if you want easy to clean. It costs more now, but will last for years, where as one or two scratches will ruin a teflon pan. 7/9/2006 2:59:14 AM |

Toss them and invest in some good cookware... stainless steel, cast iron, or copper
