>> NEW! RE: RE: Nc State fans posted by: Crazy Nole on 07/10/06 01:54 PM I'd have to say that nobody really cares about UNC/NC State outside of NC. Now if you're talking FSU/NCSU, I'd say that that is a big recent rivalry.
As far as football goes, I don't really know/care much about UNC. They're kinda like a smaller UVA but with a better basketball tradition.
NC State definatley takes the cake for football though. Their stadium atmosphere and crowd is almost like in Tallahasee, plus they're expanding their stadium.
UNC football just seems too "soft" for anyone to care outside of NC.

yea, but nobody outside NC cares about that shit. All they see is NCSU ESPN games that are shown in their area. That means that State doesn't have to acknowledge UNC for anything and we can compete with anybody.
Its like our series record with Dook. We still have more losses to them than wins but most of them were before 1950's and everybody know that NC State >>>>>>>>>>Duke football regardless of series record. 7/10/2006 2:10:28 PM |

^^Really. The only thing going for this season is that the UNC game is the next to last game. Last year it was the 3rd game and almost an entire season is just that much harder to watch after a UNC loss.
^Don't be to confident in:
"NC State >>>>>>>>>>Duke"
The last few times we played them the game came down to the last few seconds. We only won one of those on a missed Duke FG. And this was when Duke was going multiple winless seasons. We've been lucky in that we haven't even had them on our schedule to have a chance to lose to over the past few years.

Nobody in the ACC (before UM) had beaten us that many times.
The fact that you've been trashtalking NCSU so much shows some kind of inferiority complex with the school. I'm just saying that outside of your state, people see NCSU as the only major regular football contender.
If you claim Duke as a football rival (and alot of UNC fans do) then nobody can have much respect for the football team." |

^ I concur. I remember them having a few passing plays before the kick to get into fg range. We were in extreme prevent defense and they just barely missed a catch or two that would have given them a significant chance of making the fg. Plus their kicker was damn good at the time and prolly could have made a 50-60 yarder. 7/10/2006 8:20:01 PM |

I always consider the establishmet factor. UNC, just like every other "University of_____" was here before the engineering/agriculture school.
Therefore, UNC was already well established long before NCSU, giving UNC the advantage in everything from alumni support, public funding, size and consequently...sports.
This is why college athletics is not as fair/competitive as professional sports (primarily NFL) where teams get fair shares of money and can make or bust depending on their management. (sans NY Yankees)
Disproportionate amounts of taxpayers' dollars go into local universities to provide financial support for their sports teams, yet the majority of the state population never goes to these schools. So what you really have is several semi-pro/Collegiate sports teams with fanbases and everything while education/politics is based upon frivolous school rivalries, etc....
This is why many people including William C. Friday is against bigtime college athletics. 7/11/2006 9:31:26 AM |

That's not a fair argument. The converse is the more important point, which is that the majority of these schools' populations are residents of the state.7/11/2006 9:46:42 AM |

I am pretty sure that I read something recently saying that State had the most alumni donate money in recent years. (Mostly because of all of the additions) Carolina just had more revenue generated from merchandise sales due to all of the "Walmart fans."
I am not really familiar with smaller schools, but at schools like state . . . the athletics budget is separate from the rest of the budget and it is generated from ticket sales for basketball and football.7/11/2006 3:12:31 PM |

we have plenty of trees. i think some people just get the feeling that we lack trees due to the Brickyard (which i personally think was a great and unique idea). i really like driving down Dunn Ave. and having the trees on each side giving it some shade. have they turned on the fountain for the parents and kids at orientation yet?
i'll gladly conced that UNC feels like they have more trees though. does anyone know the acreage of each campus?

the all-time series vs. unc is pathetic, especially the early years when all of the games were played in chapel hill. i wonder what the record is since the ACC was formed. that should be a little more telling as to the competitiveness of the two programs fully established and on equal grounds. although it will probably still heavily favor unc, it won't be quite as bad.
ncsu is 22-31 vs. unc since the ACC was formed and 24-38 since 1940 when state reached major college status.
