Loaded cast. Nice.

Now only if they can get Scarlet to lower her voice a few octaves...

How the fuck do you neglect to mention it's written and directed by Christopher Nolan, has Michael Caine, and has Nikola Tesla played by DAVID FUCKING BOWIE?

I think I'd see anything with Bowie in it. This will be no exception.

If you were disappointed by The Illusionist, you will love this. Hopefully this is the beginning of the usual string of releases around this time that makes you forget how shitty the rest of the year has been in terms of films.

i enjoyed it. i want to explain my only problem with it, as it was a pretty big problem, but i dont want to give anything away. my problem isnt so much of a flaw with the movie though as it was in my misunderstanding of what the film was. it was pretty darn good though. just watch the jumpin around of chronology, cause it can be a little random at times.

yeah, this movie was pretty awesome. my only problem is i ruined it for myself.

driving to the movie i turned to my friend and was like, just a hunch, but judging by the preview this is what i think is going to happen....

*possible spoiler ahead?

i was exactly right and spoiled it for myself.
about 5 minutes into the movie, giving that i already had a hunch something minor happened that instantly confirmed it.

so, i guess if i hadn't seen the preview a million times and thought about it too much, i would have enjoyed it more.

ps. david bowie in this movie (accent) = pierce brosnan (as bond) 100% eerie how close it was. I instantly noticed and thought that it was just in my head. Right after the movie a friend of mine said the exact same thing

Really great movie. Saw it Saturday night. The ending was good. I just wish i didn't guess some of the plot twists too far in advance. (ie. a certain "you know who" looking a lot like another certain "you know who"...and them not showing that first "you know who" except from the side or behind). At least the theory I made up when I watched the trailer was wrong.

This movie was well worth my time and money.

I can't believe people don't know about it.

Jackman and Bale were great and Scarlet is sexy as hell no matter what.

I liked this movie too. From what Ive been hearing, almost everyone has been able to figure out the ending but no one has flat out said it ruined the movie for them. And if you are a lover of haberdashery like i am, then the Prestige is for you.

I saw it liked it, but one thing bothered me at the beginning when Michael Cain was at the trial he said the tank held 30 gallons, did they have gallons in England?

dude, they're only know switching to the metric system in Britain. Gallons are an "Imperial" unit, as in the British Empire.

I enjoyed it but I thought it was way too predictable.
I pretty much didn't have to watch the last 30 or so minutes to know what has going to happen.

in the time frame the movie was set they used standard Imperial measurements such as gallons and feet etc.

I thought it was funny how they made it all suspenseful in the last moment when they showed one of Jackman's "clones" in the tank.

Like we hadn't already figured that out about half an hour earlier....

i realized that the jackman that they had shown dying and bale was in jail for was a clone, and that bale had a twin (which they really didnt try to hide that much, they basically said it long before the end), but for some reason i didnt exactly put two and two together and realize that every night he was killing a clone, and thats what the blind were taking out each night, thinking back i dont know how i didnt realize that. but even knowing all that, i still dont think it ruined the movie in the least bit. i dont think the makers were really trying to shock people with the "secrets," i was more intrested in how it would all play out.

when he wouldn't let homeboy to the back of house, when he brought in blind stagehands, when the hats and cats were all in the woods

when they would never show bale's assistant's face, when he was telling him how to talk to his wife, when he was acting completely different all the time

the point was... Jackman didn't know if he was a clone or not at the end... in fact, he says that at the end, so at one point, the original Jackman is killed, which could have been at the first cloning... The original Jackman is zapped to the other side and the cloning is standing in his place, sees the gun, and fires while the other protests... or it during the first cloning in the theatre... there are lots of things that can be debated about the movie...

and...

Nein. The movie's explanation fucked up. Every night the original Angier would have drowned. As he entered the machine he should have expected certain death. The fact that his identical clone would continue living at the back of the theater would have been little consolation as he fought to breath. All in all it was a decent flick though.

Fun fact: After Nicola Tesla's(a legal american citizen) death, the US Government claimed he was an illegal alien and took possesion of his entire estate.

it was worth it to finally get bale's secrets. it was part of his master plan and part of the dialogue between bale and jackman about sacrifices at the end of the movie.

Angier says something like "I never knew if I'd be the man the box or the prestige." Sure he knew. He'd be the dead guy in the box every night. That was the fuckup, in my opinion.

Well, that and the obvious fuckup of casting guys that look practically identical in opposing roles in a non-sequitur flashback movie. I'm white and it always took me a minute to figure out who was who. I'd hate to be an Asian watching that movie.

i thought he said "no one ever sees the man in the box"

which was relevant for their conversation because jackman thought he had finally gotten the better of bale, but instead jackman never considered bale's prestige (and vice versa)

I say he would know he was certainly about to die every night. And since he(the clone from the night before) had never experienced death, he would have good reason to be scared shitless. The meaning is similar, but it's a 100% chance of death instead of 50%. Someone obviously dropped the ball in proofreading the script. In a flick that went to such lengths to get the costumes and such just right, it's a pretty glaring fuckup.
