I just set up a new computer for a friend; its a dell blah blah blah. He runs a farm and does his books using some shitty MS-DOS based program. The program loaded on the new computer fine and is all good. The problem is his new printer connects via USB. In the management program the only settings for printers are through the LPT or COM ports. Thus I can't get his payroll forms and checks to print.

I'm trying to get him to covert to quick books/quiken but he wants to stick with his old program till the end of bacca season.

How to print?

Share the printer out.

In a command prompt type:

net use LPT1 \\computername\printersharename /Persistent:Yes

That should get you rolling.

Does he still have the old printer? You could use that.

Alternatively, use Google:

Should work for you. I have a few clients that use a legacy dos program in Windows 2000 that I had to do the same thing for and it works like a charm.
