Are we getting this car? I've never been a Mazda fan, but seeing this thing on Top Gear has changed my mind.

Looks like I want the 2006 Mazdaspeed 6 Grand Touring.
MSRP $30,485 and I doubt I can get much of a deal. Don't know if I want to spend that much on a Mazda.

power seats are heavy... it can be easily a 40-50 lbs. difference for a seat sometimes if you've got motors for lumbar, side bolsters, etc. Anyway it's a waste of 2 grand for that package.

The mazdaspeed 6 has more power and more torque, although a bit slower b/c of the weight, plus it's got a 6 speed. The Legacy GT looks like a Ford Fusion to me. As far as modding goes, well if I wanted an STi I'd get an STi. They cost a similar amount as the Legacy GT.

the new spec b will be out soon, a six speed with idrive and aluminum suspension bits.

a faster car
and an adjustable center diff
and the engine is mounted right.

but the mazda speed six is what they were talking about... good car but they heat soak knock and go into limp mode when you drive them hard for very long. the factory fixes this by raising the knock sensor threshold [opinion]which i don't think is a good idea[/opinion]

they didn't "change" the name.

its referred to the mazdaspeed here, and the MPS in europe and australia.

Well the whole point of these cars is to get the turbo/awd car without the boy racer thing, so maybe comparisons with an STi aren't the best anyway

Thats a pretty funny comparison here, especially considering that the Mazda 6 and Ford Fusion are just about IDENTICAL under the skin

But if I were, I'd be pretty hard pressed to find a single one recommending the Legacy over an STi

Especially for a performance enthusiast

A. thats not a magazine. its subaru of america.
B. I was recommending it to someone looking for a similar car.
C. By all means get the damned STI if its your thing but i think the new ones all alpha looking are ugly
and i like the room and the capability for the legacy to be faster rather than the speed and the inability to make an sti bigger.

i got to beat the hell out of a mazdaspeed 6 on an autocross course at Zoom Zoom Live -- it was a pretty fun car -- boost was really smooth, interior was really nice -- but it basicly felt like a bigger heavier more expensive, wrx
