OK, not sure where to post this for sure... but I thought I try here.
Just having finished a small home theater install using a Yamaha 7.1 receiver and Klipsch speakers... I am having trouble getting anything worth while out of the rear speakers.
The receiver has a "auto" setup feature which cycles through all the speakers testing for placement, polarity, size, etc... and during that test the rear speakers (which are Klipsch 8" two-way in-wall speakers) sound off properly... but when watching a DVD I get nothing (literally) out of them... ever!
The DVD player is not going to win any awards, but it is connected to the receiver VIA a optical cable connection.
The receiver is a Yamaha HTR-5860.
I've tried cycling thru all the soundfield options with no success.
I can switch the unit to 7-channel stereo and I I get sound out the rear speakers... but that is not surround sound, just the same thing coming out of each speaker.. but it tells me that the speakers are functional and that the receiver recognizes them.
Am I over-estimating the amount of sound that should come from the rear speakers during a movie? Am I just ahead of the game using a 7.1 receiver?
I have the side surround speakers installed on the side walls of the room (also Klipsch In-Wall, but 6.5") and they are almost always producing some sound... seems like ambient noise from the DVD and sometimes an effect... not much, but more than the rears... which is nothing, zilch, zippo.
DVD that display the Dolby Digital logo, don't seem to activate the Dolby Digital display on the receiver when being played back... should this concern me?
Any help would be appreciated. 7/20/2006 4:20:49 PM |
