I have a friend with a 1998 Jeep Cherokee 4.0, which has been stalling immediately after start up. It starts the 2nd time and works fine. The problem is only intermittent now. I am not sure if it does it when the engine is cold or hot. Unfortunately it never does it when I am in/looking at the car. And it is hard to get the symptoms, because girls do not pay close attention to that kind of stuff. Anyone have any ideas? Is this a common problem? Or any ideas what to check? Fuel filter?

i would think a bad fuel pump would cause other issues as well.

I see a lot on the net about faulty CPS in these jeeps.

my CPS has failed twice, but both times it was a no start condition. It can't hurt to replace it and see if that fixes it, because it WILL eventually fail on you. It may correct your problem, may not.

a bad crank sensor acts a little differently on a jeep

"furl pump"

and if the gasket is shot on the top make up some interesting way to clean the tank....

my gasket had fragmented and become more of a spacer set to let shit into my fuel tank...
i killed the stock and a new pump before i drained the tank into a bucket and cleaned all of the ruber and shit out of the tank. (i didn't know it was in there until it was empty)
