i would never have gone out of my way to switch to DVI, but when my new LCD came with both the VGA and DVI connectors, i figured i'd try it out

the difference was noticeable for me, but it didn't cost me anything, either

yes I say it has some definate gains. Specially on monitors supporing higher resolutions. I have a 20.1" widescreen LCD monitor that displays a resolution of 1680x1050. It looks sharp, vibrant and flawless on my DVI connection, but when I switch to analog and run at the same res, doesn't look as crisp and I can definately see some color distortion. But that is only when I run it at high resolution, the color distortions goes away.

Then again, I deal with graphics, work with flash, illustrator, indesign, and photoshop everyday. So color is important to me.

I can tell that *usually* the panels will run at a slower refresh rate with DVI. My flat panel can run at 60Hz DVI, 75Hz analog. So I stuck with analog because I would get headaches and eyeaches otherwise.

you must have sensitive vision. 60Hz on a LCD is not the same as 60Hz on a CRT.. I will agree with you that 60Hz CRT is a major eyesore, but I don't see the 'flicker' effect on an LCD. I would think the lack of sharpness from the analog connection on a digital LCD would be more of an eyesore than the refresh rate.

If you get headaches at 60hz on a LCD, then watching a non-CRT HDTV must be deadly.

^ what he said. low refresh rate flicker isnt a factor for LCD panels like it is for CRT monitors. switch up to DVI from analog and the crispness and clarity of the screen will be very noticable.

I've got an analog 19" LCD here at work and the screen is visably blurry, the boss is a cheap bastard and wouldnt fork over the $texas for a new video card and DVI flatpanel

I very rarely notice any difference between my LCD that is connected via the VGA port and the one that is connected through the DVI port.
