keep them until you are 40...think of how much their value will increase
baseball cards are like owning stocks...in the end, they always go higher 7/24/2006 12:45:18 AM |

or maybe people will come to realise that buying pieces of paper for $100+ is fucking retarded by then. I'd sell em now. 7/24/2006 12:53:01 AM |

As far as graded, does that mean like mint good fair etc...conditions...? if so then no alot are in plastic cases but lots are loose too...
And I know what you mean about hanging on to them... they do go up but I would like to know how much some are worth and where the market for them is.... I used to get Becketts and look to see how much they are, I guess I should pick one up and get an idea..... 7/24/2006 12:53:18 AM |

take my word for it:
if you ever plan on making money off your prized cards, you have to get them professionally graded. you won't be able to sell them in shops, at conventions, or on ebay without a grade.
it's not cheap, but if you have some big time cards in your collection, it's a must
other than that, you'd be better off selling them by weight.
i sold a shoebox full of nothing but '70s and '80s cards on ebay last year for $80 7/24/2006 1:06:11 AM |

i collect as well...
i did some selling/trading on ebay for a while last year, but i ended up spending a lot more than I made.
I pulled a Dwayne Wade rookie auto-jersey card and sold that for a few hundred, but other than that the money has really gone towards older graded cards.
Companies have really killed the value of memorabilia inserts because everyone puts them out now and they arent as tough to pull in a pack.
I suggest if you have any older cards, take em out and look what you have. If there's any worth getting graded (mantle, clemente, etc.) Go ahead and do that, but don't necessarily sell them immediately.
They will only go up in price. 7/24/2006 12:08:14 PM |

Even if you have cards that are somewhat valuable you can get them graded, they offer huge discounts for if you're getting a fairly large amount graded and slabbed.

For your commons donate them for a tax write off, I could stand corrected but last I heard you could claim book value for them, which when I was collecting was like .05-.10 might be more now adays. 7/25/2006 4:17:49 AM |

I have a shitload of cards
but most of my high priced ones are basketball
Im starting to grade a lot of my really good ones now
Remember back in the day how hard it was to get a jersey or Auto card?
now the market is flooded and the price for all of them has been driven way down 7/25/2006 7:54:26 AM |

My favorite card I ever received was a Buffalo Bill OJ Simpson card. Got it for my birthday and 4 months later he was being chased by the police on tv. 7/25/2006 6:50:37 PM |
