BJ Novak. He writes I believe. I dont like him or his character but he is a pretty big part of the shows success.

Yeah, Ryan/BJ Novak.
he is a head writer, and has written some of the excellent episodes like The Fire and Diversity Day. I'm not saying I don't like his character, but it's clear that he doesn't have nearly the exposure or screen time as the other 4 main characters. He shouldn't be listed in the opening credits as a main character.

my thoery is that when it started a couple years ago, they thought they would need him more and his character would expand. but once they started working with Pam, Jim, Dwight and Michael, they probably found they have more than enough material centered around those 4 and they didn't really need Ryan that much.
But once he's pegged as a main character, i guess it's hard to go back... that would suck to be "demoted" out of the main credits, and it would probably be a significant pay cut when you move from main character to supporting cast.

^^ yeah, the entire supporting cast is outstanding. I can't think of another show, or at least sitcom, that has such a rich and developed supporting cast. Even though the show is really focused on Michael, Dwight, Jim and Pam, they've worked everyone else in enough so that they have all developed pretty rich personalities.
That said, I feel like I know more about Creed than I do about Ryan.
