I listen to Rilo Kiley in the car more often than anything else.

That, and all the guilty pleasure songs I refuse to play in front of others.

I have to be careful when listening to OK Computer in the car, as I tend to speed during "Electioneering".

I was listening to Before the Dawn Heals Us when my car was demolished by an asshole who didn't know how to break. I didn't get hurt, but that album feels weird to me now.

The best song for this (contrary to the belief of Volkswagen) is "Alberto Balsam" by Aphex Twin.

Her Space Holiday - The Past Presents the Future

used to rock the fuck out to gloria record's lull in traffic back in HS though, on the way home from some girls house, windows down, middle of the summer, etc.

i hear ya cif82. that's actually the only way I can listen to that album (and yes i do like it)

my favorite late night I-40 music is (forgive me for my lack of knowledge on the field) ethereal sounding electronic music you know that type that makes you feel weightless drifting in space and you know neither speed nor time, not the safest conscienceness to slip into while driving i admit haha, and perhaps some of the more jazzy sounding Air (premiere symptomes, moon safari eh debatable).

I think you would like Porcupine Tree's "Voyage 34 - The Complete Trip"

If you want a real trance put on Keith Fullerton Whitman - Lisbon.
Those first like 10 minutes of drones just grab me and put me at total ease.

This thread is absolutely correct. Good call Cif82. That is the album that I listened to the first time I tried shrooms. It was intense, and it is now my music of choice for late-night high-driving.

i second Boston's Boston -- i think every song on that album was a single at some point

More recently though, Siamese Dream from Smashing Pumpkins

Nice list. Although I would probably replace Dark Side Of The Moon with Animals.

The other night I got a little high and went on a drive around the neighborhood. Windows open, lightning and thunder but no rain, listen to a mix cd I had burned not too far back.

The track that stuck with me was Smashing Pumpkins - For Martha. Great song for alone/thoughtful driving.

On a slightly different note, Ralph Vaughan Williams's 'Lark Ascending' is the best if you are driving at sunrise.

RVW is AWESOME. I have a disc called "The Nash Ensemble" of a couple of his chamber works. Great composer.

Yeah, it's exceedingly easy to beat.

As James Iha said, "I suppose listening to a double album is kind of like going to the chiropractor... It's pretty good for you but you can't force it on anyone else."
