This wasn't a military event. It was one line of rulers taking over after the Umayyad Dynasty waned in power. So basically 661-1258 was peaceful (within the Middle East, at least)

Not to mention there's a 600-year period of peace between Roman conquest and Muslim conquest

Oh, and Kris pointed out the 1400-1940's time of peace.

the middle east was far more prosperous before the europeans put their foot in. israel certainly didn't help either, but they were going down the wrong road over 50 years before the official formation of israel.

middle eastern leaders saw that europe had a much more advanced military technology and desired this technology for their countries. bit by bit, they sacrificed a lot of control in their countries to european influence. and then after world war 1, the whole region was split up between european powers along culturally arbitrary lines. this arbitrary dissection is probably the biggest reason behind violence in the region because of separating groups of people that have been together for hundreds and thousands of years and throwing people together that had been separated in the past.

israel is a common problem the leaders of arab countries use as a distraction from their own issues. this does not mean that israel is not actually a problem, but it certainly is not the only one.
