I used to have a Mustang. Then I got an Eclipse GT. Then I got a BMW.
The mustang was pretty shitty compared to the other two, and I had driven a buick before it. My dad has a '78 F150 that has over a quarter of a million miles on it, but Fords havent been built decently in a long ass time. Good to know that if a Civic ever rear ends it, their engine would be in the trunk (if it didn't drop, of course). 8/1/2006 1:51:40 PM |

lets be more specific to what year mustang.....
I hate it when people come on here and are like mustang sucks so a mint condition 1964 mustang sucks... ok bad example as most no one has access to that kind, have you driven the new ones 05 or 06, they are leaps and bounds better then previous generations and are quite nice if you ask me
sorry to pick on you but general comments dont help anyone out 8/1/2006 1:56:03 PM |

I've boycotted Ford because they spammed the airwaves with the "Beep, Beep" commercial and are now spamming the airwaves with Taylor Hicks twice-per-commercial-break in the worst "race to the remote to hit mute or change the channel and cross your fingers in hopes that the next channel up isn't playing the exact same commercial" advertising blitz I've ever suffered under. [/longest sentence I've ever typed]
Who am I kidding. I'd never buy a Ford anyway.

In my experience, car performance/reliability is a function of how you maintain them. Fords are nice indigenous cheap cars. I, personally, have a 1995 Mustang (girly V6), and it has been more reliable than some civics and BMWs I know.
All cars break some time or the other, but with domestic cars, you have the luxury of getting parts and labor for cheap. 8/2/2006 8:46:53 AM |

Agreed...Although some of the Toyota trucks are pretty nice too. I've just known way to many people with ford cars that have had trouble. I have to say though, they all had v4s, so maybe the v6s are different. My cousin had a mustang a few years ago and never had any trouble.8/4/2006 10:21:22 AM |

Well if all the people that have had trouble with Fords but haven't had trouble with other vehicles I guess it is safe to assume that Fords have a high maintenance factor. 8/4/2006 10:57:47 AM |

I drove a '98 mustang V-6 from the time I was in high school until just a few months ago...it had 55K miles when I got it and I put about 80K more on it during that time and I never had it in the shop a single time except for routine maintenance. I don't think you can ask for any better then that. 8/4/2006 11:22:56 AM |

His truck never broke down, it just drove cross country about 12 times hauling, among other things, a Buick and a shitload of furniture. He was in the Army and drove it everywhere. We still have it, and it still has just about the original everything in it that doesn't need regular replacing (like fanbelts, and such). It does need a new radio though - that's fucked up and the speakers are dry rotted so you can't listend to any music. And it's chamois colored too. 8/4/2006 2:43:45 PM |

Nah...just getting opinions. Haven't taken it to a mechanic ever since I got the spark plugs and the wires changed 4 months ago
It was running on factory originals before that.

1. Squeaky suspension - Happens to every car. Problem gone. 2. Messed up A/C - Problem went away on its own. I am thinking it was because I didn't run it for a long time. 3. Wouldn't start - Never had that issue. 4. Rusty brakes - standard. 8/4/2006 4:29:04 PM |

yeah...I changed the spark plugs on my Mustang for the first time after 156k miles.
^^ That was a parody I believe.
Besides, the suspension ain't squeaky anymore, and it has nothing to do with Ford.

with Ford (or American cars in general), there are alot of incosistency in their production. I know people who have American cars that run forever, but I also know people that their cars' transmission went out 2 months after the warranty expired. Japanese car companies tend to be more consistent with their product qualities, so you know what you're getting, instead of hit or miss with American car companies. 8/4/2006 9:42:06 PM |

we had an 85 ford and made it all the way to 600k before pulled it from the fleet we also have a 92 with 320k but pulled it due to an accident where an employee tried to pass on the right (as in shoulder) at 55mph still runs around the nursery just not on the open highway 8/5/2006 8:34:07 AM |

Its like any other car manufacturer, some cars are complete shit and break all the time, others will never give you trouble. Ive got a 1994 Mustang Gt and I think the only thing that I had to get fixed that wasnt routine maintence or something as a result of a poor decision on my part was getting the harmonic balancer changed out after 85k. My friend used to have a 92 tempo, and it was the biggest POS Ive ever encountered, the front bumper literaly fell off the car one day. Another friend of mine has an 05 Mustang GT, and that thing kicks ass, its nice, reliable, and its a hell of a ride. Really it just depends on what kind of ford you are looking at 8/15/2006 9:52:34 PM |

just to add, my wife is driving a civic hybrid from work right now (she's an inspector for the great state of NC) and it is a piece. Interior is crapy and very cheap looking/feeling, also the fuel miliage is not what I expected only avg 38mpg when her non-hybrid mini (which I somtime drive the hell out of) is avgeraging 36!?!?!? Not worth it to me.8/17/2006 8:21:28 PM |

no kidding. when that beep beep band came to downtown live, i was tempted to go down there and murder all of them. except the girl is pretty hot, which complicates my feelings. that guy who does the fred anderson commercials ranks right up there too. on the other hand, i think DC has about the best auto commercials going now.
