So next Tuesday is supposed to be a reading day for second summer session. Two of my three classes don't have class this day. However, my COM 110 class is having class that day and our final speech is due.

Can they do this? I thought that the reading day was so that we didn't have class and had a chance to study for exams.

I haven't heard of a reading day at NCSU before this ... usually classes end on Friday and exams start Monday of the following week. I don't think there is an official policy on this. Might want to make a few calls tomorrow to find out. Let the rest of us know.

Yeah, I'd never heard of NCSU doing anything but dead week before exams, but for SS2, we have class Monday, reading day Tuesday and exams Wednesday and Thursday.

it's a real day - aug 8th - but nowhere does it define "reading day"

my guess would be that it's something akin to dead week.. where stuff can still be due, or maybe that's what your teacher's thinking. I interpretted the same as you did, though; that it would be a class-free day to study since there's not a weekend.

August 7 Monday Last day of classes
August 8 Tuesday Reading Day

"Last day of classes", says to me that it's the LAST day of classes. And so Tuesday would not be a class day.

I've got 6 other hours of classes that I need to actually use that day for to study for. I'd rather not having to drive across town to campus to come to school on a day after classes end.

If it bothers you, write it on the professor evaluation form.

3: ask you deptartment head

I've already talked to my teacher and emailed an advisor, so asking TWW was just to see if anyone else knew what the deal was. The teacher said that she couldn't penalize me for not coming, but we have something due, so I have no idea about that.

We did evaluations for my 1st Summer class.

The professor for my 2nd Summer class said we're doing them next week.
