The Garner rink just redid their ice and did the lines and creases with mesh instead of paint. You could see the holes in the mesh for the first week or so while scratching the crease, but now it looks just like paint.

^^ That second one is an old-ass picture; they haven't worn blue and gold in Norfolk for years.

no, there is a thin layer of ice over the concrete then they paint that with the background (white) then put some more ice over that, then paint the lines and then put the rest of the ice on top of that.

I used to hit up those crazy ass ECHL games at the Scope (and at the Richmond Coliseum), the Richmond Renegades vs. the Hampton Roads Admirals. Motherfuckers literally were fighting in the stands, I saw it more than once. That was a rivalry.

On the topic at hand, I knew that the design was under the ice, but I didn't realize until recently it was all hand-painted. I thought they just stuck a graphic design under the ice.

^^^ Some rinks paint, some use mesh, and others have graphics printed on sheet vinyl/plastic.

People still fight in the stands in Norfolk. Something about the mix of drunk rednecks and drunk sailors.
