Yeah Deraney...Ive never met you man, but having lost someone close to me before, I hope your dad lives long enough to see you have your best season yet, and I hope the NCSU athletics department is able to fly him to our first game, to give him the type of standing ovation he deserves. Best wishes man, and I hope your pop is able to stay strong.

deraney is the shit, our football team wouldve been terrible last year if it wasnt for him, and we probably would be this year also

its pretty rare a player has to play kicker and punter for two seasons in a row

I hope one of the two we just recruited has HALF the leg that JD does.

Deraney is awesome.

i remember seeing the NC State: The Season 04' by ESPN. that's when i first learned about his dad. i feel so bad for him, but i'm glad his father got to see him play. if you can download it. it's well worth the watch, and makes you value your parents that much more. hopefully his dad can get to see him throughout this year. keep on fighting Mr. Deraney. we're all behind you and your son. John Deraney is definitely one of the most solid punters and kickers i've ever seen in college.

I lost a friend almost 10 months ago and I can't even begin to imagine what is gojng through john's head. We should all do what we can to support him and his dad throughout the season... not just with posters, but with signs and letters to the athletic department showing our support.

John is showing the greatest commentment to this university there is poosible.

My dad died a month before I graduated HS, my uncle died a week after, my girlfriend dumped me (shes a whore anyway), and I then joined the military right after graduation.

What a shitty time to go to boot camp that was...

I always feel terrible when I hear about someone losing their father. Here's hoping that Deraney's dad will hang on for this season and til next summer so he can get to see his son get married. I couldn't imagine not having my dad at my wedding.

Deraney almost makes me forget about the pain Adam Kiker brought me for years.

I hope our crowd is informed and realize the situation he is going thru in case he struggles at any point this season. I really hope he has a great year and is worthy of drafting in the late rounds next year.

Very sad for JD

He's been the man though, as consistently good as you could ever want a player to be. I definitely want him NFL-bound.

I pray that Deraneys Dad gets to see him do well this year. I recently lost my mom and I know how difficult it must be for John, being from georgia, not make the decision to stay at state and not transfer to a school closer to home. My moms cancer came back in college and I transferred to NC State to be closer to home.

Much love and respect to the Deraney family.

Andrew

Friend of mine at work is losing his father to ALS very, very soon and it just sickens my stomach to think about having to deal with a situation like that... I just couldn't imagine losing my father, especially having to watch him suffer like that.

A coworker of mine just got diagnosed with MS last month. It is in the very early stages, they though she had had a small stroke. She gives herself insulin shots everyday now.

In six years she will probably be in the same boat....
