I am tired of the sub box in my GTI. I am going to change it. Yes, I know, another project in the works.

What I have so far is:

Setup:
1000/1 on the top shelf
300/2 on the second from the top shelf
250/1 on the third from the top shelf
Front components and sub crossover on bottom shelf

The 12 is on the left in a sealed box, and the 8 is on the right. I haven't decided between a sealed or ported box for it.

I am looking for any other ideas, but that has been stuck in my head for a while. If you have any comments, those are welcome as well.

Seems like it would be difficult to get to the bottom and middle shelf. I like designs which flush mount the amp and other components hiding the wires. My last system that I installed in my car was when I was 17, almost 10 years ago...God I'm old... I mounted the amps, crossover, capacitor, power distribution block on the 60/40 fold down rear seat which closed flush to make a nice clean look.

Will your be made of acrylic or you going wood.

flush mounting high power amps seems dumb to me... they're shaped like a heat sink for a reason

CAUSE THEY ARE ONE

btw i actually like the box if everything is sized right and it would stay together...

and i'd seal the 8 too if mid bass is the goal with it i think it would sound best sealed & tight.

I should start this on sunday. It is mostly wood, as my plans are now.

^^ How much heat is radiated out the sides vs the top? All the controls and cable hook ups certainly aren't there to be a heat sink.

^^^most of the heat is ditributed out the top. Plus I had a cooling fan mounted in there.

looks good man. i keep tryin to come up with soemthign for my setup that will leave some cargo area but still look good, when ever i come up with something i alwasy tell myself "u got 182k on this pos jeep just leave it like it is."

most high powered amps these days are class d meaning they run cooler. quality calss ab amps will run hotter but most of them will run cool enough for flush mounting too as long as they get the voltage they need. worse case they may need a fan. i think flush is the way to go.

i thouhg you had the 8" sub sealed the way it is now? yea if mid bass is the goal seal it like sumfoo said.

btw there's a sound compeition this saturday in clinton .

if you guys are going to argue about his sound stage , even putting up front will cuase problem since midbass is still somewhat directional. we already talked ab that in his original thread forever ago. yes a 8" on each side would be ideal but between the excursion and magnet on the 8" w7 his options are limited.

I am not worried too much about SQ here. The sub amps are hooked to an external independant crossover. The 8 plays from 140-60 Hz and the 12 plays from 60-20 Hz. They are on a 24 dB slope. There is a little bit of overlap, but I do not hear any problems. As said before, the 8 is there to keep the upper end of the bass spectrum and keep it clean. The 12 comes in low to blow out the bottom end.
The 8 is way to large to be put up front. Most of the midbass is taken care of through the components.
I built it out of cardboard to get a greater visual. I drew it a couple of times and it just wasn't working for me. I would usually do it in AutoCad, but I dont have it on this computer.

I would recommend if you really care about the soundstage then do away with it altogether if you have some 6.5s up front that can play reasonably low.

Bass is directional at 100hz. You should just let the 8 play from here down to your 12 crossover if anything else.

If you're just a basshead and like showing off to your buddies that don't have a clue and fags beside you at the stoplight, then by all means do what you are going to do.

design looks good, I would like to see the amp racks slanted slightly to show off the amps just a little more. Hopefully you are not still running all this off of your factory headunit with lineouts because that would kill SQ real fast...

looks good man, i was thinking the same thing with the tilted shelves to show off the amps and it would be easier to hide wired behind them. i dont know how much harder that would be to make, just a visual suggestion.
