there's no point in going socket 939 anymore other than if they're much cheaper than socket AM2. 939 will be phased out soon so I would try to go AM2 if you can.

tell your friend to wait for Intel's Core 2 Duo's to come out. They're gonna have the most amount of processing power for a comparable price to current cpus on the market. Either that or still wait and FX cpus will drop in price when the Intel's come out.

Thanks for the advice. It saved me alot of work! I pointed him to some 939 vs AM2 discussions and let him know that there is alot of hype for intel's new chips.

am2 = ddr2 only... other than that it's a good idea to look at it over 939....
