i noticed that there are fairly slim people with a blotted face sometimes. i was talking to my personal trainer and she said that's due to alcohol . . . not sure if that's all to it. if it is true I'll stop drinking TODAY !!!

A B's gotta do what a B's gotta do, G.

But thats due to a SHITLOAD of alcohol. So unless you're chugging nightly, you "might" not have anything to worry about.

That's weird. I always thought that the facial weight just correlated with the rest of the body weight.
Maybe it's just an allergic reaction that can make a face look more puffy than not.

Sodium eh ... well, my brother doesn't add salt to anything and doesn't eat prepared foods (frozen/canned from the store I mean) and he still has a fat face but he's definitely not a fat dude

I know my face swells whenever I don't take my blood pressure meds. Fluid retention.

Bring on the beached whale jokes...

steroidal medication like prednisone can cause that puffy look.

I think it also has to do with facial structure. There were some SKINNY Japanese mofos with fat faces.

No, I don't think he's asking why people's faces are fat, but why they become fat.

certain drugs will do it, some disorders and diseases will too.

I can't recall any one food acutally doing it though....

Salt is a factor, if I eat chinese, my face swells.

Alcohol and medications also play a roll.

fluid retention, certain medications, excessive vomiting (bulimia or otherwise just sick), hypothyroidism, lots of things can cause it.

Genetics. Some people have fat faces and some people don't.

I think it varies between everyone. Whenever I gain/lose weight, the first place it happens is my face. It is more noticable there then anywhere else.

I have both a Biochemistry degree and a Nutrition degree.... there are several possible causes for facial swelling... some a nutritional and some are not. If you are genuinely concerned, go see a doctor...

i dunno how a biochem degree would help figure out a fat face really....

i have a bio and (most of 3 classes left) a chem degree...

the nutrition one is the one that would really be the most helpful out of any of them short of a medical doctorate

there is no such thing as facial weight gain. if you are losing weight without getting rid of fat the fat stays. the way to fix this is to target fat. they have a heart rate target measure for this.

I think it's probably that we are genetically programmed to notice faces more keenly than other body parts. We can sense weight gain in ourselves by looking at our faces because it's the one body part we check every single day.

blah blah blah.......

its proven that your face retains a shit load of water, thus why its the first place that adds weight when you gain excess fat/water, and its always the first thing to look "slimmer" when you lose weight.

its all about your cheeks, mang. Those bad boys have lots of fat cells that retain water.

^ That's probably the answer to the fat face appearance - water retention

And as far as weight loss and gain of fat - the face makes it easier to notice those trends because we look at it in the mirror every day, at least I do
