It's a Bosch VE style pump, and it appears to be leaking from the base of the distributor head. I noticed this when I went to turn the pump up.

As it is, the pump is now turned up a little bit (quarter turn on the full power fuel screw), and the truck runs better. I'll have to Dremel a limiter collar off the screw to get more power. I didn't have time with everything else I had to do.

Any of you taken a VE apart before? I'm not afraid to do it but the truck is the only roadworthy vehicle I have right now.

^^Been there, saw that! Thanks, anyway, though.

I'm probably gonna cut the limiter collar off the fuel screw either tonite if I get back in town early enough.

I prolly oughta turn the star wheel a bit, but that is second to the fuel leak issue. It's such a damn slow leak though.

The big thing I wanted to do is to bump the timing up a bit on the pump; however, I could only loosen 3 of the 4 bolts securing the pump. The last one I couldn't get to, though I think I can with a 1/4" drive 13mm wiggle socket. A regualr socket and a wiggle joint is too long to fit on the bolt. My shorty 13mm wrench won't work either.

^ crows foot with a universal joint is the way to go, unless its tight as hell, then just give me a call for a ride to the emergency room for stitches if that nigger shit slips off

I tape myself up with duct tape or masking tape when my nigger wrenches slip loose!

I just thought of using my distributor wrench or maybe bending a combination wrench in the shape of a "C"...

i've always used the method above, in conjunction with some taps form an air chisel to break it loose, and super glue works better on open wounds, the gel stuff

Damn, you're right about the super glue. I used to use that a lot when I went flying my model airplanes and got the shit whacked out of my finger when I tried starting a flooded engine by hand. Dem props got sharp edges.

What's funny is that you'd think super glue would hurt going on a cut (with them noxious fuckin' fumes) but it doesn't. At all.

hell yeah, i've used super glue on some pretty serious stitch needing gashes. reckon a gear wrench would work for you? i got a 13mm around somewhere...

I'm hittin' Sears this week to get a 13mm 1/4" drive wiggle. That will do it. I have to get this timing advanced some. Fuel mileage is pretty shitty, and I should be able to hit 18. Of course, it would help if I didn't run full throttle everywhere I went.

Before anybody says that the fuel leak is fucking my fuel mileage, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say I doubt it's leaking more than a pint between tanks, if that much. Just the fact that there's one more thing that's making the underside of my truck slick...THAT pisses me off.

Actually...it IS at the filler neck. I leave a small puddle every time I fill up.

Well, the injector pump quit leaking.

But my damn valve covers all started leaking. Yes, the Cummins has a valve cover for each cylinder. I just put brand new gaskets on them yesterday when I adjusted the valves. OIL ALL OVER THE TOP OF THE GODDAMN MOTOR NOW.

And they ARE bolted down with an o-ringed positive stop bolt, so there's no over/under tightening.

Naw...leaking around the base gaskets. One of them specifically is leaking around where the base gasket goes over the valve cover edge. The gasket is rubber, and it's channeled so that the cover edge fits inside the gasket. I cleaned them up as well as I could (or felt like, given the time constraints).

I'll probably just end up pulling out the gray silicone and sealing them motherfuckers up good. They have never been replaced before...the engine paint actually stuck them to the covers.
