Quote :
" DETROIT // A federal judge ruled today that the government's warrantless wiretapping program is unconstitutional and ordered an immediate halt to it.

U.S. District Judge Anna Diggs Taylor in Detroit became the first judge to strike down the National Security Agency's program, which she says violates the rights to free speech and privacy.

The American Civil Liberties Union filed the lawsuit on behalf of journalists, scholars and lawyers who say the program has made it difficult for them to do their jobs. They believe many of their overseas contacts are likely targets of the program, which involves secretly taping conversations between people in the U.S. and people in other countries.

The government argued that the program is well within the president's authority, but said proving that would require revealing state secrets.

The ACLU said the state-secrets argument was irrelevant because the Bush administration already had publicly revealed enough information about the program for Taylor to rule.

More details to follow. "

i value freedom and rights

like the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness

i think that life freedom is kinda important

cant really do much without life now can you

maybe you think the right to have a private conversation on a phone system that you don't own is more important than the right to life

maybe I think that life and liberty go hand in hand, one without the other is useless, so to debate putting one over the other is also useless.

but you can post that line a few more times if you please.

So would you also be ok with willingly disarming yourself, submitting to a national id, allowing cops to search you anytime they want, etc...
Where do you draw the line?

I fail to see how it is common sense for the government to have such disregard for the law in respect to personal privacy. Of course if I was given the black and white choice of dying or having my phone conversations recorded, I would choose life, but we live in a free fucking country, we can have both.

unless you are some sort of psychic, it certainly is hypothetical.

^Look I don't agree with wiretapping but that implication is just silly. Why don't we just do away with the military entirely because the threat of an invading force is pure hypothesis.

^^ it was merely in response to his implication that doing away with wiretapping would ensure more terrorist attacks on US soil. I responded with an equally silly hypothetical, and lowered his statement to include all terrorist attacks.

I am not in any way saying terrorism is not a threat.

I mean, I definitely say it is hypothetical to say that there will be more terrorist attacks due to warrants not being able to be served in time. That was the actual argument there.
