Anyone here have any experience with Veritas on Unix? I have a job offer that requires backup/restores and although I have several professional years on Unix(including Linux/Sun/AIX) I have not used Veritas or any other backup type software. These duties were covered by someone from another team. Is it something that I can fake the funk and learn it on the fly? Or is it something that needs extensive experience to learn?

i don't know about their unix version, but backupexec and their other software is very easy to pick up on the fly

I'm on the administrative side of a Veritas Netbackup based operations center. I also use backup exec. What are you going to be doing with it primarily? By that I mean, are you going to doing the administration on the hosts being backed up, on the system doing teh backups, or both? Backup Exec is by far the easiest, but Netbackup isn't too bad. From the host administration side, its downright easy. Basically, you'll install the software, and the NBU admin will give you the stuff to plug in on the clients. Let me know if you need any help.

If you're a good sysadmin, you should be able to fake it, or write a perl script to make it work the way you want it to.

I didn't get the job.. They wanted someone with real hands on experience.. I know I could fake it or at least learn it well enough to be productive in a short time. But I'm not going to lie and say I can do it.. Oh well. I'll look you up marilynlov7 if I need anything. Thanks.

the backupexec unix agent is ancient and they dont really support it.

also, it doesn't work very well and theres no open file option like there is with windows.
