Hopefully Chuck has finally stopped trying to find a Rivers replacement, and has learned to use the skills that his players do have.

"It has nothing to do with rushing yards for the season or 100-yard rushing games. Nothing about yards per carry, even touchdowns scored.

"Pancake blocks," Baker said, smiling.

Crushing blocks, that is. The kind that flatten defenders and help spring long runs.

"If I have the most pancake blocks for him," Baker said, "he has to take me out to eat.""

I'm glad that James Davis, and Tyrone Moss (injury), and Wake's Andrews are getting a lot of the hype preseason as the premier backs in the ACC. Baker and Brown will push each other and work on the not so fun aspects of being an NCAA running back, blocking. TA knew he was the starter from the time he played in his 3rd game until he left, with zero competiton, and he read about it every day, and it cost us.

as I was beating State's ass with Tennessee on NCAA 2007 they did do a really cool play with both of them on the field... toss to Baker faked a counter right, then ran left and pitched it to Brown

the news & observor guys sure are unimaginative. i really wish they would pick up on the "shake & bake" nickname for the duo. "b&b"?

the best part is they both have 2 more years with the team.

i say 2, because they'll prolly go pro after 3 years if they have years like i think they will.

3 more years would be nice though, too.

toney baker would definitely go pro as soon as he can, but i'm not so sure about andre. i think he has a good shot of sticking around until graduation. i have the sense that he highly values getting a degree.

If a two back set involves us going into the shotgun, I'd rather not see it.

I dont think Baker has much pro potential, let alone enough pro potential to leave early.

Andre Brown on the other hand looks like a future first rounder to me.

Just don't see Brown as a first-rounder. You have 1 or 2 RB's in the first round every year and I don't see him being viewed as the complete package. Runners with a little more agility go in the first round and Baker is less cat, more horse. He'd definitely be an early-mid second rounder though.

well we didnt really see anything from baker in the first game. if he keeps that up, then no he won't be going pro early, or maybe not at all for that matter.

and i agree with this:

i have no beef with using shotgun a little, except for the fact that we were running shotgun draws on the FIRST DRIVE with NO PREVIOUS SHOTGUN PASSES TO SET UP THE DRAW.

that's like running play action fakes 3 times in a row without any runs to set it up

Are you talking about both of them or just Brown here? Baker is all horse and has some moves, but no top speed. Brown has power, speed, break tackle ability, but he doesnt have the cutbacks from what we've seen. However, the cutbacks (i assume tahts what you mean by agility) are sometimes learned. Brown ran over people in high school, and he's still able to do taht here to some extent. That has as much to do with vision and knowing when to cut as it does the ability to cut.

Also, He's actually eligible to leave after this year if he chooses because he graduated from high school in 04 (he's a year older than Baker). I dont see that happening, but its possible if he has a great season.
